Jerome Selig Obituary

Selig, Jerome "Jerry"
a successful Milwaukee businessman and brother of Allan H. "Bud" Selig, Commissioner of Major League Baseball, died Wednesday, July 7th in Phoenix, AZ. "Anyone who knew Jerry knew him as a loving, generous, straightforward person," said his widow, Marcia. "He loved his family unequivocally, and had a great number of friends that he loved dearly and that meant the world to him." Although he was very proud of his brother, Jerry Selig was a very private person who did not wish to be reflected in his brother's fame. An avid horseman, Jerry owned two horses and loved riding in the foothills around his home in Boise, ID and near his other home in Scottsdale, AZ. Jerry Selig lost a long battle with lymphoma at a hospice in Phoenix, but lived a full and active life until his final days. "He loved his family first, but also loved his horses and his dogs," said Marcia Selig. Jerry had friends too numerous to name, that he loved dearly and that meant the world to him. For many years, Jerry Selig ran Selig Leasing Company in Milwaukee, a company started by his father Ben and that has been operated by the Selig family for many years.
After leaving Milwaukee, Jerry and Marcia resided in Miami, Boise and Scottsdale. Jerry Selig was born and raised in Milwaukee attending Washington High School and then Bradley University. Jerry served in the United States Air Force Reserve and was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun Synagogue in River Hills, WI. Survivors include his widow Marcia of Scottsdale, AZ; a daughter Stephanie (John) Thuerer, of Boise, ID; daughter Amy Selig, of Denver, CO, daughter-in-law Beth Selig of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren Sydney and Ben Selig, Daniel (Danny), Thomas (Tommy John) and Margaret (Maggie) Thuerer. A son, Tony (Anthony), husband of Beth, preceded him in death. Also survived by his brother Allan H. "Bud" (Sue) Selig; sister-in-law Donna Selig and brother-in-law Richard Chaimson. The family suggested memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice. The body will be cremated and there will be private memorial services in Boise and Phoenix in the fall.

Dearest Marcia, I'm sad at your loss of your life's love, Jerry. Though I'd just found you and had a grand picture of the two of you, that something happened in your then silence. Remember I'll always love you, happy you have your children. Uncanny I saw Bud on Wi Alumni cover and saw Jerry in my mind.
