Joe Schoggen Obituary

Schoggen, Joe Gene
95 of Litchfield Park, AZ, passed away on September 15, 2017. Born in Norman, Oklahoma in 1922. Served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as Supply Officer, USS Menifee (APA 202). Married his college (Park College) sweetheart, Charlene M Schwenk in 1944. From a University of Kansas faculty position, Joe was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. Later served as Supply Officer, USS Altair (AKS 32) and Material Control Officer, SIXTH FLEET in the Mediterranean Sea. Completed a 30-year Navy career as a two-star admiral, Supply Corps. He then worked as President, Navy Federal Credit Union and Chief Operating Officer, Credit Union National Assoc. Other positions held: President, Governing Board, Recreation Centers of Sun City West; Member, Sun Health Corporation Board of Directors; Member, Sun Health Leadership Committee; Chairman, Sun Health Governmental Affairs Committee; Treasurer, Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital; and President, Sun City West Rotary Club. President, West Valley Symphony Orchestra Association. Active member, the Military Officers Association of America and Rotary International. Member Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame. His last gift of service was donation of his brain to the Banner Sun Health Research Institute's ongoing research on Alzheimer's Disease.
