Joel Olson Obituary

Olson, Dr. Joel Karleton
of Flagstaff, AZ passed away March 29, 2012. Born in Ypsilanti, MI, Joel moved to Phoenix in 1979, attended Thunderbird High School, ASU and obtained his PhD at the University of Minnesota. He was a well loved Associate Professor of political science at NAU, an author, mentor to many and a social activist and advocate for the oppressed. First and foremost, Joel was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to Audrey Creed; proud father to Malcolm, George Emmett and Nile Vida; and brother to April, Wendy, Nathan and Natalie. He is also survived by his parents, as well as a multitude of friends, colleagues and students around the world. A memorial service will be held at NAU on Monday March 9th at 1:00 pm. My heart goes out to you all. It knocked the wind outta me when I heard. Unfortunately, I'm on a first name basis with that kind of emotional pain. It never goes away, but it does get better. I promise. God Bless You All.
