John Dewey Obituary

John Richard (Dick) Dewey died peacefully at his home in Sun City West, Arizona on Friday, January 26, 2007. He is survived and loved by his sons Douglas, Michael (his wife Patty and her daughter Kim Kuranda), and his favorite daughter Debbie Koehler (her husband Tom). His grandchildren; Emily Conway (husband Shawn), Jessica and Sarah Dewey, Tom, Ben, and Amy Koehler, and great-grandchildren; Max, Sam, Gabe, and Emma, and half sister Dorothy Ducharme (husband Bob). Dick was born in Zanesville Ohio in 1925 to Verna Dewey Kapp and Edgar Dewey. He graduated from Lash High School as an accomplished musician, winning many competitions with his sax, and leading his own band. He enjoyed Big Band music all of his life. There he also met his high school sweetheart Loreen Winland whom he married and spent the next 56 happy years until her death in 2000. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served his country as a bombardier, resulting in his lifelong interest in aviation. After discharge, he settled in Pittsburgh to start his family. He was active in the Boy Scouts, Zion Lutheran Church, the Shriners, and the Alcoma Golf Club. He was an excellent amateur magician, an avid Steelers fan, and the last of the Studebaker junkies. He worked as a sales representative in the Western Pennsylvania area to commercial outlets and institutions. He retired in 1996, moving shortly thereafter to Sun City West. After Loreen's passing, an angel came into his life named Linda Bendure. They shared many happy times together. He will be deeply missed. A private family service will be held at a later time. A Memorial Fund in Dick's name has been set up with Hospice of the Valley. Donations can be sent to: Hospice of the Valley ATTN: Donations Dept. 1510 E. Flower Street Phoenix AZ 85014
