John Donaldson Obituary

Donaldson, Dr. John Culver
73, passed away on January 25, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 26, 1943 to John and Mary Donaldson. He grew up in San Diego and graduated from San Diego State College in 1965, with a degree in chemistry. John then went on to study medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1969. He served as a doctor in the U.S. Navy for eight years, completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia and finished his fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Once out of service, in 1978, John moved with his family to Phoenix. Initially he worked at the Medical Care Clinic in Sun City, but later he went into practice for himself. He opened the Clinic for Chest Diseases, also in Sun City, in 1984 and tended to his patients there and in area hospitals for the next 32 years. He also served as an adjunct assistant professor at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1997 on and served as a medical director for several local nursing homes. John was an avid, lifelong gardener and a black belt in Jujitsu. He spent three decades diligently researching the family's genealogical history, collecting the names and stories of more than 90,000 people. John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean; three daughters, Sara, Leslie and Katie; and grandchildren CJ, Ailsa, Meada, Caitlyn, Ruben, John, Alejandro, Camille, Emerson, Parker and Kendall. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 28 at 2 p.m. at Orangewood Presbyterian Church, 7321 N. 10th St., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the West Valley Genealogical Society or the American Lung Association.

Dr. D was my clinical preceptor for pulmonology. What a great guy. I saw him get people of vents who had been there long term : SNRI's, coffee, and oxandrolone. What a maverick. Plus I also did Jujitsu and we often spoke about that. What great memories.

Robert Donaldson

June 10, 2020

Dr. Donaldson, was my mother's (Mary) physician until she passed away in 2004. We went to Dr. Donaldson, because we shared the same last name. With each visit, it become unusually obvious that we were quite possibly related being my father, Robert Donaldson was born in Kittanning, PA in 1918. Dr. Donaldson, stated he believed there was a connection since he too was PA, but couldn't quite put it together, but never the less always refered to my mother as "mom". Dr. Donaldson was a kind and warm hearted man and i am thankful that he helped my mother during her times of illness and now I hope they will now be able to resolve the family issue in heaven.

Dr. Donaldson was one of the kindest men and doctors our family knew. We had known him since the 80's because he was a client of my husbands, Dennis Landauer. Later Dennis, Chris, and my mother all became patients of the Doctor. When I worked in the Sun Cities, my business required I call on doctors and he was the only one that would take the time to visit with me and even have lunch. All of us are shocked to hear of his passing. I am so sorry we didn't hear the news soon enough to attend the service. May God comfort his loved ones and friends at this very sad time. He will never be forgotten and will often be remembered in our family conversations.

Dr. Donaldson was my doctor for about 30 years. Not only was he a great doctor, he was a beautiful wonderful person. We talked about our love and missing our wonderful "Poopers." We had some wonderful stories about our fun things. I am three years older than doctor Donaldson and I am so devastated to have lost him. He will be very missed. My condolences to the family. With much respect and appreciation of a caring, and great doctor. He literally saved my life twice in the years I went to him.

February 3, 2017

"Dr. John" was a blessing to me and my family. He and wife Jean visited me in the hospital in the aftermath of my multiple myeloma diagnosis where my oncologist welcomed John to listen to his evaluation--bedside. Also, "Dr. John" brightened our world with his love for telling jokes. Love and prayers to his beloved family.

How do you hold a"Moon Beam" in your hand !
Dr. John C. Donaldson was a real "Moon Beam" from the day I met him even now as I think back on my thirty years as his patient. The man had more energy than I ever knew and he was always ready to help me no matter how tired he was. He loved his work and who he was.
He exhumed energy, he gave his patients strength and confidence that it would be okay, he was there to help you. The peace of God was within him and you need not worry unless he told you this is going to be rough. Dr. Donaldson,
God knew how hard you worked and how much you gave .You have your eternal reward now. Be at Peace with God. You will be sorely Missed. I will never forget You, my friend , until we meet again .
