John Helmick Obituary
Glendale - On the early morning of January 3rd, John James Helmick , 73 slipped away on the subway to heaven. Born on January 2, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, he is survived by is mother Margaret; two brothers Frank (Sylvia) and Richard (Sherry) and two sisters Virginia (Mike) Matousek and Irene (Tom) Pacanowski. He was preceded in death by his father John Patrick, son Matthew and a brother Steven. In 1964, John joined the Army. Upon completion of his military service, he decicated his career to the National Guard, and the State of Arizona's veterans. John was a devout Catholic, family man and democrat. He will be truly missed by his family and caretakers. Visitation will be Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m with funeral services to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 9925 W. Thomas Rd., Avondale. Memorials can be made to www.polytrauma.va.gov. or www.legion.org. Condolences can be made to hccfh.org.

Sorry to hear of Johns death John and I became friends while we served in the Army in Korea. John was in our wedding in 1970. Over the years we would meet. John was here in Chicago in October of 2009. Our last grandchild was bore while John was here. I heard of John illness in the month of March 2010. Over the years we missed talking to John and thought of him and his family. May he Rest In Peace Frank and Kath O'Connor

John and I dated for awhile many years ago. We lost touch over the years. I am in Arizona for the Holidays with my grand children. Hopefully John went peacefully without pain. My heart goes out to his family.
