John Lundin Obituary

John Edward Lundin, 65, of Phoenix, passed away on January 19, 2006, as a result of a car accident in Flagstaff, Arizona. He is survived by his loving wife Wyn; his children: daughter Cathy (Lundin) and husband Dan Ellington, son John, Jr. and wife Hazel, daughter Kelly McAuliffe, son Christopher; and grandchildren: Jocelyn and Christopher Ellington, Candace Williamson, Rebecca and Jennifer Lundin, and Sam Ellington. He is also survived by sister Marilyn (Lundin) Hendrix and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Harry Emil and Dorothy (Zahn) Lundin, sister Carol (Lundin) Lendrum Cahill, and brother Harry, Jr. He will be deeply missed by his countless friends, who he thought of as family and loved dearly. Born May 9, 1940, in Minneapolis, John was raised in Chicago and moved to Phoenix in 1957. He served in the Army Infantry from 1963 to 1965. He attended the University of Arizona, was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, and graduated from UofA Law School in 1967. A respected and admired attorney, John began his law career at Snell & Wilmer, in 1973 was a founding partner of Wentworth, Wallach and Lundin, and in 1987 joined Gallagher & Kennedy. His distinguished career led him to 5 elected terms as a member of the Arizona Board of Governors, to serve as special counsel to the Arizona State Senate, and 9 consecutive listings in "The Best Lawyers in America". He was a proud member of Ascension Lutheran Church, and served numerous terms as President of the church council. John will be remembered for his generosity, his humility, his spirit, his unwavering faith in God, and his pride in and devotion to his family, especially upon his son Chris's return from Iraq. His life was filled with the things he loved: Lake Powell, his boat, his cabin, his church, the Wildcats and the Cubbies, The Matador, fishing, his "the more the merrier" mantra, and a full and happy home. His laughter and love will be with us always. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24, 4:00-8:00 pm at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale. Services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 10:00 am at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 7100 N. Mockingbird Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85253. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ascension Lutheran Church in his memory.

I was so sad to hear about John's passing. I used to work for him. In fact I was his first secretary when he graduated from law school at Snell & Wilmer. I am so, so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man.
