I was so privileged to see John Pappas only a few weeks ago at the beginning of the Christmas Season. I will never forget our visit as John would read the words I wrote and responded to each question or thought. When we talked about Jesus and heaven, he pointed to his heart and said, "He is my Conductor. I am waiting for Him to come get me." There were many other precious things he said that will never be forgotten. John loved his family and friends with all of his heart. We were with him often during the time that his wife became so ill and when she passed away, as well as the season afterward. His love and devotion to Martha were enormous. We will never forget his tears and great sorrow at her passing, and his sweet love at the mention of her name. As he said during this last visit, "The mind forgets," when referring to some event or question which he couldn't quite remember. But the heart doesn't, and John's heart was huge and never forgot. He remembered his family and his loved ones. He even remembered the sound of our young daughter's trumpet playing during the years they attended Desert Hills, which he mentioned each time we visited. His heart reminded me of Christmas. Our dear friend, we will never forget, and we look forward to seeing you again with your precious Martha - and the Lord Jesus Christ - in heaven.
