John Stern Obituary
passed away peacefully on July 25, 2011. He is survived by his son Mark William Stern; daughter Kathy Stern Jones and son in law David Jones; grandsons Thomas Stern, Mark Stern, Jr., Shane Jones and Justin Jones, granddaughter Meghan Stern; niece Mary Streetman; nephews John, Rick, David and Jim Streetman; and cousin Lou Delicath. John was born in Decatur, IL on August 5, 1925 and apprenticed at Caterpillar Tractor Company. He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology and loved to play sports in his youth, especially baseball. In 1957 he moved with his wife Marjorie to Phoenix and for many years owned and operated a successful business, Precision Machine and Engineering. His great love was seeing his grandkids excel in school, sports and life. He also enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Moon Valley Country Club and flying his airplane. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife whom he cared for and supported through her 10 year long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Now he can be reunited with her and their son John Michael who passed away as a toddler and was never far from John's thoughts. John will fondly be remembered for his honesty, strength of character and love of family. Visitation will be 5-8 pm with Rosary recital at 7 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020 on Thursday, July 28th. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 330 W. Coral Gables, Phoenix, 85023 on Friday, July 29th. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Brophy Community Foundation, 4710 N. You were the last of the old guard. Thanks for hanging with us for so long. I've lost a lunch buddy but I've gained a guardian angel.
