Goldman, Joseph Perry
Joseph Perry Goldman, 95, born February 27, 1915 in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He graduated as a pharmacist from Ohio Northern University in Aida, Ohio, and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. Joe served in the army for 4 years where he ran the military hospital pharmacy in Dyersberg, Tennessee. In 1942, he married Luella (a member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corp - WAAC) in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and they were together for 68 wonderful years. Joe and Luella had two sons, Elliot Sheldon Goldman, who preceded his father's death in 1995, and Jay Samuel Goldman of Phoenix. After leaving the military, Joe changed professional direction and started working with his father-in-law, Nathan Liff, in South Bend, Indiana, in the scrap metal business, In 1962, Joe and Luella, and their two sons, moved to Phoenix where Joe continued in the scrap business. He was instrumental in opening the largest scrap shredding processing plant in the Southwest. One of Joe's major accomplishments for the Jewish way of life, was working with his wife, Luella, and becoming major contributors to the Hadassah Hospital in the Hills of Ein Kerem in Jerusalem where their names are inscribed in stone on the Founder's Wall. Joe also was the first vice president of the Jewish Community Center of greater Phoenix on Maryland Avenue, and a member of Beth Israel Congregation for almost 50 years. He was a life member of B'nai Brith (a Zionist Organization), and a member of the Jewish War Veterans. Joe is survived by his wife Luella and his son Jay (Trudy), grandchildren Alexandria Leba and Maeghan Elizabeth Goldman, Richard Nathan (Stephanie) Goldman, Alissa Erin Goldman, and three great grandchildren, Samuel Elliot Goldman, Joshua Noah Goldman and Sophia Hope Goldman. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 am at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road in Scottsdale. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

We remember meeting Joe & Luella at the Suns games when they played at the Phoenix Colosseum. Small world that we were both from Indiana. Then we met Jay and got to know him as well. We are so sorry for your loss.
