I remember meeting Karl for the first time when he was in 7th grade and I started 8th grade at Payne Training School. Later, at Tempe High School, he was the male lead in "Show Boat." I was fortunate to have a non-singing minor role in the show so I got to spend a lot of time rehearsing with Karl. I shall miss him and I know his family and his many friends will too.
Karl, may the angels lead you now into Paradise!

Karl was a dear friend of our family since his parents were my parents neighbors and both sets of parents were Tempe Educators. I played Karl's daughter in Showboat, and Karl also had the lead in Oklahoma. He was one of our dad's favorite students in THS choral music, and they stayed connected at the Methodist Church for many many years. When it came time to handle our parents estate, we were so blessed to have Karl's help, my sister Diane and I do not know what we would have done without Karl. He helped us right up to the last few days of his life. We take comfort that he now rests from the suffering, and send our love to Cathy, our dear friend all these years.
Karl in Showboat. Wasn't he handsome!

My memories are from my youth as I went to TUHS with your Dad. He and I shared the arts. He was wonderful in the musical "Show Boat". He was much younger than the lead female, and he was still awesome. Karl was a caring person, much of which I am sure he received by the love of mother, whom I remember fondly as my music teacher at Tempe Elementary. I know that you will miss him greatly. Have comfort that he is with the Father and with his loving mother. Best regards to you all in Tempe. Maruja Vargas (Janice Kirchner), Belize Central America

If it is possible for one to have a "hero" one's own age, then Karl was my hero through high school. I admired his leadership qualities as seen through the many offices he held and served well throughout our high school years. I admired his musical, acting and speaking talent as seen in the many plays, musicals and speech contests in which he excelled. And most of all, I admired his integrity and honesty. He will be missed!

Having known Karl at THS and lived across the street from him in those years I can say that he was a truly loving Christian man who gave his all to those who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I never met a single person who knew Karl who didn't love and respect him. Just think of that: not one person who had anything but good things to say. Karl's quiet, self-effacing humor and his willingness to go to any lengths to help someone else will long be remembered. His family and his life of service are his legacies. I am grateful to have known him, and will miss him greatly.

Karl is one of those few precious people whose presence in my life caused me to aspire to greater heights through his warm and steady encouragement. I will always feel gratitude for that and for his gifts of humor, friendship, and life by example. I will miss the opportunity to see him again, but will always carry him in the special place in my heart reserved for those I am grateful to have known.

I remember Karl best in Showboat in High School. He did have a great singing voice. More importantly, he was a very nice person. His mother was my music teacher in 8th grade. She was a special person as well.

I am so sad to hear of the death of Karl Wochner. He died on the first day of the Tempe High Class of 1960 50th Reunion, reminding us of how fleeting life is. I got reacquainted with Karl recently when he came to our house to write our will. We reminisced for three hours about high school days, and I joked that I hoped he wasn't charging by the hour. I told my brother that I had so much fun getting my will done, and he said he had never heard the words "fun" and "will" in the same sentence. I recommended Karl to lots of family members and even have a message on his answering machine right now because I have a friend who needs to get her will done. Of course, I also knew Karl from high school and have a photo of the two of us in Show Boat. He was a great singer way back then. Karl was a kind, gentle man with a great sense of humor who will be greatly missed by many.
