Kendall Ong Obituary

Kendall Ong

Kendall Ong was born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 2, 1956 and passed away on October 29, 2020 in Germany.

A leader in the hair industry, Kendall started his hair career at Armando Hair Design. In 1987 he moved on to a successful career at Vidal Sassoon. He worked and managed several Sassoon salons across the country eventually becoming the Media Spokesperson for the salon, where he traveled around the world with Vidal. In February 1998, he married Beate Assmuth and they moved back to Phoenix where they purchased and operated Mane Attraction Salon for 21 years. He was a board member of the Professional Beauty Association, a member of Intercoiffure, and a past judge at the North American Hairstyling Awards. He was an advocate for continuing hair education, and he coached and mentored many hair stylists in the industry.

Kendall was a man of many interests. He would have been a perfect contestant on Jeopardy since he was particularly interested in history, architecture, music, and loved traveling the world. His life passions were his wife, Beate, snow skiing, Bruce Springsteen, playing basketball, the Phoenix Suns, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. His smile, quick wit, and dry sense of humor were engaging, and he would be the center of attention whenever he entered a room. He was loved by his large extended family and countless number of friends.

He battled back courageously from two strokes in 2019. His goal after his first stroke was to go skiing again. Through his hard work, determination, and help from the countless therapists, family and friends, he was able to achieve his goal.

Kendall is survived by his wife, Beate, sons Addison (Sara) and Dylan (Chloe), parents Frank and Louise, brother Randall (Allison), nephew Connor, and niece Courtney, and many relatives and friends.

A private ceremony will be held for the immediate family.

Kendall, a very talented stylist. He cut my hair at Sassoon (SF) for many years. It was a joy to be his client. He's the Gold Standard for stylists. Oh, and he told some awesome stories too!

Kendall and I went to high school together, we were the best of friends during those care free, fun loving teenage years. I remember his quick wit his dry sense of humor and his big smile. We lost contact after I moved to California, but I always valued those special years that we shared as friends.
My heart felt condolences to all of his family

I just learned of Kendall’s passing and it’s so hard to believe, such a young vibrant person has left this world to soon. Kendall and I worked at the Vidal Sassoon salon together in San Francisco. He was manager and I was the assistant manager. Together we worked very closely and just as he admits, he was a workaholic. He brought a lot of progress to this salon and was such a joy to have spent so much time with. I learned so much from him, and am grateful for the time we spent together.. lots of laughs. My heart goes out to his parents and the rest of his family. RIP Kendal

I met Kendall at PBA and he and I texted occasionally especially when he was skiing when I was in the area. He was kind, talented and a good human. I will never forget him

Such good memories. Kendall was my assistant at Sassoons. From there he worked his way up to manager. We always had a good laugh, from putting strange things in tip envelopes for each other to particularly rude good byes out our front window when he was leaving after a visit! He had such a great sense of humor. I smile just thinking about it. A great guy and brilliant hair cutter.

To Beate and all of Kendall's Family,
I was heartbroken to hear the news about Kendall's loss! I was his client and friend in Phoenix for over a dozen years. Every 5 weeks he picked up his scissors and made magic. We talked and talked and the conversations were so wonderful! Kendall was unique and inspiring. His beautiful smile warmed the salon and my heart. Hold all your memories close and please know that there are so many of us out there who are thinking of you and sharing our memories of Kendall, as well!

What an amazing person. Loved being on stage and looking out as he and Beate intently listened and smiled. I’m honored to have met Kendall and wish the family peace during this time.

Sending much love and sympathy to Beate and his family including his MAS family and friends. He truly was a light of positive energy and created a wonderful legacy with Beate. I was fortunate to be part of the extended MAS family as a client for the past 14 years. You could tell he cared about everyone and the community including animals as the salon did fundraisers and was very active in so many ways.
