Kristina Edlund Obituary

Edlund, Kristina Karen
Tina passed away Jan. 31, 2009. She was born Sept 7, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona, the youngest of three children of Clarence and Charlotte Edlund. She learned to play golf from her dad and loved the sport all of her life. Graduating from the University of Arizona in 1968 with a degree in education, Tina was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a lifetime educator, who lived to inspire children. Tina loved her family deeply. She was an awesome mom and a really fun grandmother. She was always there for her children, encouraging them to be the best they could be. She was also a fantastic friend to so many people, with a deep concern for the needs of others. Creative, funny, charming and beautiful, Tina was so many things to so many people. She will be deeply missed. Tina is survived by her two children, Ryan Thompson and his spouse, Kerri, and their children, Ashley, Maddie, Chloe, and Kaeden; Darcy Thompson and her spouse, Daryl Hodgkinson and their two sons, Peter and Mark; her brother, Phil Edlund and his wife, Margi; and her sister, Gayle Wilson and her husband, Pete. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis in the Foothills Church, 4625 E. River Road, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tina's memory to The Salvation Army at www.salvationarmyusa.org or 6715 E. Tanque Verde, Tucson, AZ 85715.

Tina's family,
None of you know me and I don't know you, but in the summer of 1967 in a Peace Corps Training project in San Francisco Tina and I were very close friends. Our lives went separate ways and I lost contact with her, but I never forgot her. She made 1967 the most memorable summer of my early life. I knew that she had married, so I did not think that I would ever be able to find her. How shocked I was today, to see that she had died. I sure wish that I had seen her at least one time again, but that will not be. Tell all her friends and family that Ralph never forgot her.

Ryan,
It's been a while since I've seen you or talked to you.
I'm really sorry about your mother. I talked to her shortly a couple of times, I could tell now she was reaching out. I wish I would have talked to her more, she really cared about Tim and I even though she didn't really have to. She was a warm and wonderful person with an extremely kind heart. God bless her, you and Darcy. I'll miss her and will always think of her as an angel.

To all of Tina's family: Again Tina has brought the Kappa Alpha Theta pledge class of 1964 together. We all wish that we were meeting Tina someplace special for a reunion rather than mourning her loss. She was so interrested in all of our lives and what we had accomplished. She began a chain letter long before email was invented. It took a year for all of us to read about each others lives. I still have copies of all the letters. I will always be thankful for her invitation to the Womens Conference when Gail was our First Lady. When you were a friend to Tina you were her friend for life. Thank you Tina for keeping me in touch with all the special ladies of the Beta Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Dear Ryan and Darcy...and all of Tina's friends - I am so saddened by the loss of Tina and her wacy sense of humor. Looking at her picture in her obituary takes me back to when we were all Kappa Alpha Theta pledges at the UofA. Tina was such fun and so pretty...and always was the life of the party. She has been a joy to know all these years. She was "the Leader" in keeping our Pledge class in contact with each other and organizing our reunions for which we are all eternally grateful.

Darcy and Ryan, she was so very proud of both of you. She was never shy about showing photos of you and your families, and all of your wonderful adventures and accomplishments. We will all miss her smile, her sense of humor, and most of all, her love.

Ryan, Darcy and all of Bobo's family,
This has got to be one of the hardest things I have ever had to do; write about my friend Tina. She was my first friend at Gallego School. We were friends for over 25 years. We have so many memories together. Know that she adored you so very much. And pride does NOT even come close to how she felt about your accomplishments. The best gift both of you gave her were those grand babies. She truly adored them all. I know how difficult that this must be on you , because I can hardly make it throught the day without thinking about her about a million times. My memories are what gets me through the rough times of missing her. I wish you comfort and peace at this sad time. My prayers are with all of you. If you ever need a Bobo minute...please contact me. She was a wonderful friend, a phenomenal teacher, and a loving mother. She was an inspiration to her students,a friend to strangers, and a devoted friend.I loved her like a sister, and will miss her so much.Thank you Tina, for making a difference in my life and making me a better person and friend.

You two had one of the most devoted mothers I have ever known, she was so proud of you both and when I ran into her at U of A games - she LOVED to rave about her grandkids! I will be thinking of you a lot and praying that you all will find comfort in her memories during this extermely difficult time.

Ryan and Family,
Jenn called us to tell us about your Mom, we were very sad to hear of her passing. She was a very energetic and fun person to be around. We always loved her denim jacket that she adorned with different collectable pins that she always wore to the football games.

Love,

She was my Pledge Mom when I joined Kappa Alpha Theta in 1965. I admired her so much. I named my first daughter after her.

Ryan and Darcy,

I was so sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I think I met your mom in 1968 when she and my mom taught together. My mom was Ruth Darcy. Tina was such a good friend to my mom. I truly appreciated the kindness and thoughtfulness that Tina showed my mom and dad over the years. My mom was always so pleased when Tina called or stopped by. I can still hear my mom saying to me, "Guess who stopped by today? Tina." And, then I would hear all about Ryan and Darcy and what they were doing. May good memories be with you.

Tina and I belonged to a Lunch Bunch which met for brunch once a month to celebrate the birthdays of our twelve members. It was a loss for us when Tina left Tucson. Today it is even a greater loss. A fun person and a great teacher can not ever be replaced.

So sorry for the loss of such a Wonderful Person and not to mention an Awesome Teacher.....
Tina was my son's second grade teacher at Gallego Elementary school years ago and when sharing the sad news of her passing with him today.....we both agree at what a Gem she was. She made a real difference in our lives as I am sure she has in so many others. So very sorry for this loss to Tina's family and all that knew and loved her. God Bless and Comfort You All. Very Sincerely, Ms. A. Bolt and Family

Ryan and Darci,

You do not know me, but I know you all. I lived the ups and downs in your life through your mom. Your mom was so special to me. From being my mentor in Kappa Alpha theta to being my neighbor in 49er's Country Club. I loved to hear her teaching stories and the enthusiasm and love she brought to each one of her classrooms and family. We would touch base every 6 months or so. She never let on or I did not realize she had been sick. My life has a void in it from her loss. May you be comforted in knowing how much joy she brought to her friends.
