LaVonne Maurseth Obituary

Maurseth, LaVonne
LaVonne A. Maurseth of Scottsdale, Arizona, left this life on February 4, 2017 at her home in Scottsdale. She was born to Viola (Colcord) and Joseph Cutshaw on the family farm in Conde, South Dakota. Her family moved to a farm near Verdon, South Dakota when she was 3 years of age and later attended rural Beotia and Conde Independent Schools. Fulfilling her childhood dream, she graduated from Presentation School of Nursing at Aberdeen, South Dakota to become a Registered Nurse. Through her years she held many wide and diversified nursing roles. She practiced her profession until her retirement in 1997. LaVonne was extremely proud to be a nurse and lovingly cared for many patients in her lifetime. She was the first nurse from her state to attend the course, "Surveillance, Prevention and Control of Hospital Infections," at NCDC in Atlanta, Georgia in 1970, presented for those involved in the area of Infection Control Nursing. This became the area of nursing for which she became most passionate. In 1975-6 she formulated the first curriculum for Health Occupations at Aberdeen Central Vocational High School and functioned as their instructor. She married John R. Maurseth on December 29, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, South Dakota and made her home in Aberdeen where she raised her two daughters, Pamela Ann and Kimberly Irene. LaVonne remained in Aberdeen until 1986 when she relocated to Arizona. LaVonne faced many medical challenges in her life with courage and grace but she always maintained her good humor and wit. She continued to care for others as she did her entire life. She was able to spend her last years as she had always wished, in her own private home with loving caregivers and her daughter by her side. Survivors include her daughter Kimberly I. Maurseth and her son-in-law, Timothy Davis of Scottsdale, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Ann and her parents. A visitation will be held from 5:00PM - 8:00PM Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ with prayer service at 7:00PM. The funeral mass will be 1:00PM Monday, February 13, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 10815 N. 84th St., Scottsdale, AZ. The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Like Lavonne once sent to me I would like to return the message. "TRULY GREAT FRIENDS ARE HARD TO FIND, DIFFICULT TO LEAVE AND IMPOSSIBLE TO FORGET. Sent with Love and sympathy. Lois and Hank

February 11, 2017

To the Maurseth Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
