Lawrence Crowell Obituary

Lawrence G. Crowell, 64, of Phoenix passed away on April 11, 2008. Larry
graduated from Catholic University in Washington, DC with a degree in economics and a lieutenant's commission in the Air Force Reserve; his ambition was to be an Air Force pilot, then a commercial pilot. However, his dream was altered on August 11, 1965, when he suffered a spinal cord injury and was paralyzed after a diving accident. Larry never gave up hope and despite numerous setbacks, operations and therapy, Larry regained much of his ability to use his hands. Larry went on to graduate from Case Western Reserve Law School and received his law degree in June 1969. He practiced law for over twenty years, and was a role model and hero for many individuals, and a well-respected member of his community. Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Loretta, his sister Claudia , and his loving family: Chuck, Frank, Tom, Suzanne, and grandchildren Reid and Allessandra. A Rosary service will be held at Hansen's Desert Hills at 5:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2008. A Mass in Memoriam will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 11001 N. 40th Street, on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Paralyzed Veterans of America Fund.

I just finished my Master's Degree and was hired as a telephone adjuster with Nationwide Ins. in Phoenix. He was my supervisor. We hit it off instantly. He was a wonderful friend and a great, patient teacher. Spent many Saturdays at his house playing chess. I was a privileged to have known him.

I worked with Larry at Nationwide and he was such a wonderful manager, teacher, and friend. To me he was always more concerned about people than business, whether a co-worker or a customer. A very dedicated manager who valued quality over speed. He always had a kind word to say.

Since I first met Larry, about 12 years ago while doing some work on his house I admired him. Every time I went to his house after that, both him and his wife welcomed me with open arms. Larry will be sorely missed. My condolences to his wife Loretta and his family.

I worked with Larry during my 10 years at Nationwide Insurance. He was a very positive person for being faced with life’s’ adversities. Any of our day to day challenges are trivial to what Larry had to overcome. He will be missed.

I have many good memories of my cousin Larry. He was an inspiration to us all. I knew him before he had his accident, and in my famoly he was the first one to go to college and life seemed like a wide open road ahead. I remember his first car and his girlfriends, Larry was cool!
I got to know him alot better when he was laid up at Highland View hospital after his diving accident. I lost hope he didn't and really went on to have a good life.
He was there when I lost a little direction after getting out of the Army, he was ready with some sage advise.
I never met Loretta but I am grateful to her for the care she gave him through the years.
My thoughts are with er at this time
