Lawrence Pass Obituary
Scottsdale - Lawrence Pass, 83, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away on March 24, 2021 from complications related to Alzheimers.
He was born in Everett, MA, on July 11, 1937, son of the late Manuel and Polly Pass. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanie Pass, and his two daughters, Sheryl and Audrey, and two granddaughters Leah and Elena.
Larry graduated from University of Pennsylvania with Honors in 1958 and then attended Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science (Chicago Medical School) where he was awarded the Roche Award recognizing him as an outstanding medical student. Larry also served as a Captain in the US Air Force-where he was honorably discharged in1966.
Determined to make a difference in the lives of people suffering from diseases like Leukemia, Hemophilia, and Cancer, Larry relocated with his family to Youngstown, Ohio building a topnotch community practice affiliated with Youngstown Hospital Association/Western Reserve Care System. Notable accomplishments include being honored as the State of Ohio Humanitarian of the Year (1995) by Governor George Voinovich, establishing Hospice of Youngstown, and the Silver Lining Cancer Fund whose mission is to provide direct support to Youngstown residents. Larry advocated a Medical School in North East Ohio, where he was appointed Associate Professor of Internal Medicine.
Larry enjoyed sports-playing tennis and golf regularly. Larry was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and one of his favorite players was Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski. Larry and Joanie travelled extensively visiting Africa, Australia, Europe, China, Caribbean, Central America, and throughout the United States and Canada.
