Lurena VanSyckel Obituary

VanSyckel, Lurena Lynn
On Nov 13, 2016 Lurena passed away at 93 in the Weyrich Center of Westminster Village, Scottsdale, AZ. Born on Mar 12, 1923 in Burton, KS to August Wesley Lynn and Mary Austin Lynn, she was a U.S. Government Employee with the War Department under the consulate General assigned to Frankfort-on Main, Germany. It was during this time she discovered her love for seeing the world, having visited every continent, every sea, and almost every country over her life time. Lurena married John W. VanSyckel on July 3, 1953 in Colorado Springs, CO where Lurena worked for the Air Force Academy. In 1976, they moved to Green Valley, AZ and later moved to Westminster Village in 1989 where John died in 1990. Her volunteer life started at Pembrook Hospital to Via Linda Senior Center. To honor her work with the senior community, the Arizona Governors Advisory Counsel on Aging named her a 2003 Making a Difference Honoree. She will be fondly remembered for her love for Bridge. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan 5,
2017 at 11am, at Westminster Village in the Nuremberg Hall with a reception to follow. Contributions may be made to Westminster Village Foundation Fund or Pastoral Care Associates. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
