Matthew Bertram Obituary
38, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on June 7, 2012. He was born on December 9, 1973 in Rochester, New York, and moved to Arizona in 1974 and worked as a Youth Program Coordinator for the City of Phoenix. Matthew is survived by his daughters, Elexa, Phoenix, & Paris; sons, Jake and Noah; mother, Linda; sisters, Tammy, Sarah & Rachel; and his brothers, Thomas & Anthony. Visitation will be held Saturday June 16 10:00am-11:30am, Funeral Service at 11:30am, with Windel Tucker presiding. A final viewing will take place from 1:00pm-2:00pm. All services will be held at Avenidas Funeral Chapel located at 522 E Western Avenue in Avondale. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Matthew R. Bertram Memorial Fund, a scholarship fund for his children at Navy Federal Credit Union R/T#256074974 Acct#3032488136.

His name is & I do mean 'IS' instead of was, because he will continue to live through me and the people he inspired. Matthew empowered me when I was a youth. He was one of the individuals that helped me become the person I am today. Our relationship started when I was 14 years young. We met at Luke Krohn Rec. Center, located in the heart of Duppa Villa Projects.
He gave me my first legal job. He took me under his wing and taught me how to hustle legitimately. From basketball coaching, mentoring kids, landscaping, furniture moving to even doing security for ASU fraternity parties.
As an adult, Matt evolved into a friend. I can go on and on with entertaining, and inspiring adventures him and I experienced.
One day we'll meet again, and pick up where we left off. Rest In Peace, my friend.

He was a unique character who can always make you laugh so hard you cry, he never thought of himself as amyhing more and a big kid! That's why he was always so amazing with the young people he worked with, and why he would call himself Uncle Holiday. He touched the lives of many people and will always be remembered and loved with great respect....I miss you Matty!

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of Matthew. A wonderful person that cared about all children. Your own children will miss you and am sure will never forget you. I am glad I got to know you through my son and your friend Xavier Barajas you were always kind and resceptful to me and I will never forget your wonderful smile as you talked about your children the love you had for them shined.
