Matthew Harter Obituary

Harter, Matthew Thomas
55, passed through death into eternal life on Nov. 22, 2013 after a year- long battle with cancer and infections. Born in Mesa, AZ to Raymond and Jeanne Harter on Dec. 16, 1957, he was raised in Chandler, AZ and attended Chandler Public Schools. Notably, along with being a top student, he was a starter his senior year on Chandler High's state championship basketball team. Matthew earned a BS degree in chemical engineering from Rose Hulman Inst. of Technology in Terra Haute, IN and began a life-long career in the oil and gas industry. From his first job in Iraan, TX, he worked throughout the world and made a home for the past 22 years in Jakarta, Indonesia. Along with his highly successful career as a petroleum engineer, he became an avid and competent golfer, participating in and organizing golf tournaments throughout SE Asia. He is survived by his mother and sister, Carrie Rice, both of Marble Falls, TX, a brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Candace Harter, of Durango, CO, and 6 nieces and nephews. Appropriate memorials are being planned.

Dear Jean and family,
What a shock to read of Matts passing.I'D lost track of the Harter family. I feel your pain, I'd guess Matt and Russ are sharing stories now of their boyhood days. My deepest sympathy to all. Nancy McLaren
