Matthew Urrea Obituary
Scottsdale - Matthew Urrea, 51, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away in Arizona on November 20, 2018.
Rosary and visitation will be Friday at 6 p.m. at French Funerals and Cremations at 1111 University Blvd NE in Albuquerque, NM. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Matthew was born in Albuquerque, NM to Francisco and Alberta Urrea on February 17, 1967. He went to high school at Sandia High in Albuquerque before attending the University of New Mexico. After passing the New Mexico Bar upon graduating from the UNM Law School, Matthew went on to receive his postgraduate degree, the LLM in Taxation Law, at New York University.
Matthew was a practicing tax attorney and passionate entrepreneur. He was a partner at Schlenker & Urrea in Albuquerque for over 20 years before heading his own law firm with offices in both Albuquerque and Scottsdale. He launched the growing Walk-in Wills business with locations in New Mexico, Florida, and the soon-to-open Arizona location.
Matthew was the President of the UNM chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and met his wife of 26 years, Annabel Lee Urrea at a mixer in 1987. Matthew and Annabel married on December 30, 1992 in Phoenix, AZ and made their home in Albuquerque for 17 years before moving to Arizona.
Matthew is survived by their four beautiful children, Matthew Jr., Maria Pilar, Oliver, and Phoebe, all of Scottsdale, AZ. He is survived by his parents Cisco and Alberta Urrea of Albuquerque; as well as by his six siblings, Francisco III; Tessa; Tina; Thomas; Richard; Daniel of Albuquerque. He is also survived by countless nephews, nieces, and extended family.
Matthew was a loving, devoted husband and father who took great pride in his family; still always referred to as "Daddy" by his adoring children. Known to "shred the guitar", Matthew was a gifted classical guitar player, and collector of guitars, who also loved a great game of golf, and reading. He had a history of excellence in track and field as well as golf in his youth.
Donations, in lieu flowers, can be made in Matthew's name to the Catholic Charities of New Mexico or the American Heart Association.

I just learned of Matt's passing today. I regret my absence and pray for our Lord's comfort upon the entire family.
I first met Matt as a Sigma Chi pledge while he was serving at our chapter's president. We reconnected a few years ago at the Señorita Ball with the Music Guild of New Mexico.
I knew Matt to be a person of integrity, faithfulness, wisdom, and compassion. I am shocked and saddened by this loss, but I also trust that Matt, my fraternity brother and eternal brother in Christ, is with our Lord Jesus.

Annabel, words cannot express my sadness about the loss of Matt. He was the brightest light for me, and many others. Matt was never just a boss, rather, a friend. brother, and work partner. I grew into my adult self while working with Matt. I have so many memories with him, 14 years was a long time. I will always cherish that Matt left nothing unspoken to me about his feelings of he & I working together. This will hurt my heart for the rest of my life.
