In Loving Memory of
Matthew West

Matthew was born to Michael and Lillian West in Phoenix, AZ. Matt loved music, playing guitar and riding his new Harley. Matt also loved attending church at First Christian Church of Phoenix. Matt was totally devoted to God and gave freely of himself to help anyone in need as a member of the First Christian Family. Matt devoted his time to community service with Habitat for Humanity, The Special Olympics and Clean up of Communities in AZ. Matt also participated as a youth counselor, leader, choir member and band member. Matt was highly academic graduating from North High School, Class of 2009, Magna Cum Laude. Matt was a member of the National Honor Society and was International Baccalaureate (IB Program at North High School). Matt was awarded The Science Award and was a National Merit Finalist. Matt was in his second year as a pre-med student at ASU in the Barrett Honors College. Matt was on a full ride 4 year scholarship with exceptional grades and a 3.95 GPA. Countless people have been inspired by the man, Matthew M. West he has made a huge impact here at the church, with his friends from High School and College, and all who have crossed his path along the way. He loved many people, and they equally loved him back. Everywhere he went, he brought enthusiasm and wit with him. When it came to youth group, he was always one of the first people here and one of the last people to leave. He eventually became a key leader in the youth ministry. While he was in the youth group he was part of several leadership teams, served as a worship leader playing the guitar and singing, served behind the scenes helping plan events, making videos and helping with all kinds of details. When he sang at church he had a mellow voice and vocalized his deep love for Christ beautifully, his long hair was his trademark.
Matthew, you took our breath away because you were so awesome. Love Mom, Dad, Mariah, Cassandra, Ulani, Heather, Ronil, Tahlia and Dazia.
