Mikey Filipsik. A Bridgeport legend.

October 28, 2019

Sorry to see Mike has been gone fora while now, he was a great guy. I was a young kid about twenty when I first started working at Brown and Brown in the early eighties, but Mike was always very friendly and nice even though I was at the virtual bottom of the totem pole. Then I remembered 1984 and boy, how we talked about those Cubs. I think I took it harder than him when they lost, but he had bigger priorities, I'm sure. I left in 85', but I'll always remember him and that big smile and barrel chest walking across the service drive, I'm sure he's still missed.

Mikey. Most people don't know you would have been a pro athlete. A wicked fast curve. The only guy in the hood, maybe the whole South side, that had that skill. The coaches at De, nobody did then, didn't know about "Tommy John" elbow issues from throwing fast curves at a young age and they blew out your 16 year old arm. You had guys from U of I, UCLA a few others looking at you. That was a disaster for you and the hood. If you're watching me from above my great great personal friend, giggle with me when you think of "Bubbly Creek". Hello to Sharon.== (and Ziggy, ziggy where's your comb, jjajajaja)

Daddy I hear your whistle...thank you.. its funny it reminds me when you would be upstairs probably opening the shutters and you would open the window and whistle the say "big papa sees you" as if I was doing something bad. Hahah you see me working now. Pretty cool, I love it. College too? Im not doing so well at this time. I had some serious trucking to do to get through that crazy ride. I did it. Thank you for giving me the rope I needed. Your the best. 3 sugars Eddie!

Daddy Thank you for coming to me in my dreams. It's been so wonderful to see you. Thank you for teaching me about the little things in life that make out for the biggest. You were never big on getting you anything for fathers day or wanting to do anything. Last year you wanted pastina and chicken broth. you werent feeling good enough to make it over so me and mike ate it. Ill be eating it every fathers day from no on. Mike talks about you everyday. Thank you for playing swords and power rangers with him even when you werent feeling up to it. mike cherishes those moments. heres the XOXO mike wants to give his papa so badly. Thank you for being the first one to hold Rhiannon she hears it all the time and she loves the cross like all your grandbabies! Who would have known it would be such a great teething piece. Thank you for being a such a tough guy. I'm part you part mama and through the past 2 1/2 years of what road i've been traveling is making me stronger than all. Daddy no need to handle me with kitten gloves anymore!!! I know your proud. I know what I'm to do and I feel greatness is coming my way. It's been a long drawn out road but finally it's starting to make sense to ME. Missing You Daddy see you soon. Weazie

TO MY DEAR FRIENDS SHARON KIMMIE AND LISA,
I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF YOUR FATHER HUSBAND AND FRIEND. MIKE WAS A CARING GIVING MAN. I AM SORRY THAT HE HAD SUFFERED IN THE WAY HE DID AND HOW HARD IT WAS FOR ALL OF YOU CARING FOR HIM AND LOVING HIM DURING THIS UNFORTUNATE TIME. HE IS AT REST AND WILL NOT EXPERIENCE THE PAIN ANY LONGER.
I REMEMBER SO MANY LONG CONVERSATIONS IN HIS OFFICE AND ON THE PATIOS. MIKE ALWAYS GAVE ME ADVICE AND THE CONFIDENCE TO MAKE IMPORTANT DECISSIONS. BUT NO MATTER WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT MIKE WOULD TALK ABOUT HIS FAMILY ALWAYS EXPRESSING HIS LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU AND HIS GRANDCHILDREN. EVEN DURING OUR LAST CONVERSATIONS YOU COULD SEE HOW HIS EYES WOULD STILL HAVE THAT LITTLE SPARKLE JUST SPEAKING THEIR NAMES AND THE SMILE ON HIS FACE. HE TOLD ME HE WAS FORTUNATE AND LUCKY TO BE SO BLESSED TO HAVE ALL OF YOU.
I FEEL BLESSED TO HAVE KNOWN HIM AND THANK HIM FOR ALL THE GOOD TIMES THE LAUGHS AND THE TEARS THAT I SHARED WITH ALL OF YOU.
MY TRIPS TO VISIT YOU WILL ALWAYS FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS MISSING WITH OUT HIS SLICED BEEF AND RICE.

REMEMBERING MICHAEL:
I remember eating cookies at Mike's house when we were kids. His mother was a great baker. We used to go into the basement on 35th Street and sneak some of his grandfather's "Dago Red." I'll never forget priming his father's car to make it look more hip. His father went crazy because it was the family's car.
The world was a better place with Mike in it. He will truly be missed.
Remembering Mr. Filipsik and Hank at this time as well.

Best wishes to Sharon and the family.

P.S. WHAT A CURVE BALL MIKE HAD!

Dear Sharon,Kim and Lisa, (and families),

I was shocked to hear of Mike's passing. He was an amazing boss and mentor. There was never a time when I felt that he was "unavailable" or unwilling to help or listen. I credit Mike's personal and professional generousity with being one of the singlemost reasons I had the confidence to do other things and go other directions. He always beamed when talking about his family. Although, it has been a long time since I have lived in Phoenix, there are always times when I have reminisced about what a great boss Mike was. Thank you, Mike for all the life lessons you taught me. To the Filipsik Family, thank you for the sacrifices you made so that Mike could have such a positive impact on so many lives. I wish I could've attended the memorial service. You are in my prayers,

Melanie (Brown) Small

Calcuttas,Annual Meetings in Sedona,Weekly sales meetings with the spiff money flowing, or my wife Sue and I and all of our children at Mike and Sharon's for a "Pot of Gravy", Great Memories all made extra special by Mike's exuberance for life and his unbelieveable sense of humor! That's what I will always remember most. Mike making wisecracks and keeping everybody loose.

February 23, 2007

I would like to say a few words about what an amazing man MF was. He was a person who left an impact on everyone lucky enough to meet him. Mike accepted anyone and evryone unconditionally. He loved his family and his grankids more then words can explain. He opened his heart and mind to me. I've learned many things from Mike ranging anywhere from advice about work to where a guy could get the best slice of pizza. I do know I wouldn't be where I am in life without Mike in my life. He's helped me in many times of need and I always appreciated his help but having him as a mentor, teacher, and most important a FRIEND. I love Mike with all my heart and will miss him greatly but will never say goodbye cause he'll always be in my mind and heart, you can take that to the bank! "This stays betwen me and you!" Love you always

Sharon, Kim, Lisa my thoughts and
prayers go out to you during this time of great loss. Mike was blessed to have you three in his life. Sharon you and mike always treated me like family and showed a true genuine concern about others. MIKE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM. WHETHER YOU KNEW HIM PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY YOU WILL NEVER FORGET MIKE. MIKE HAD A BIG HEART, HE TREATED PEOPLE FAIRLY AND NEVER MADE ME FEEL LIKE HE WAS BETTER THAN ME.
WHEN HE WOULD ASK ME HOW DANNY AND JOSH WERE HE REALLY CARED ABOUT HOW THEY WERE.
HE MADE SURE THE GIRLS IN THE OFFICE WERE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF. HE ALWAYS MADE SURE WE WERE INCLUDED. "YUZ GUYS" KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
SHARON, WE USED TO LOVE IT WHEN YOU WOULD BAKE OR BRING IN YOUR PASTA FAGIOLI. IT WAS THE BEST !!
MIKE WAS ALWAYS THERE WHEN SOMEONE NEEDED SOMETHING. I HAVE A LOT OF FOND MEMORIES FROM THE CABIN IN MUNDS PARK. BOTH FROM WHEN HE WOULD TAKE ALL THE ADVISORS UP FOR THE WEEKEND AND FROM WHEN HE LET DANNY AND I GO THERE FOR OUR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY EVERY YEAR.
MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU SHARON,KIM,AND LISA. THANKS FOR SHARING MIKE WITH THE REST OF US.
IT WAS AN HONOR AND A PLEASURE.

Thank You for all of the wonderful and fun memories. We often tell our Brown and Brown stories to family and friends up here in Minnesoooota. Mikes name is always brought up as being "The Best" boss ever. We then say in unison "I don't want to hear about the labor pains~ I just want to see the baby!" then we just laugh at each other. We will never forget Mikes wonderful sense of humor and the many life lessons he taught us. He will always be #1 in our book!

Thank you Cheryl for writing the most beautiful description of Mike. You put into words all that is in our hearts.

My family will remember Mike as a strong, tough, loving man. He and Sharon have been extra-ordinarily kind and generous to us. They showed a warm, loving acceptance to each of us when we met them. I have since learned this is the way they treated everyone in their lives.

Since then Kim married my son Steve and we have become 'family' as Sharon says. I believe Mike and Sharon take everyone into their hearts and home and each one becomes 'family' to them.

Mike will always be our shining example of a father and husband, grandfather and friend. My heart goes out to Sharon and the girls on this great tragic loss.

We all wish we could hold on to Mike and keep him with us. We will keep him with us in our hearts. And he will be nearby watching over us. All my love to Sharon, Kim. Lisa and the grand children. I am so grateful we are family. Kisses and hugs.

February 21, 2007

Dear Sharon, Kimmie, and Lisa, There are so many ways in which I loved and will forever remember Mike. I loved the toughness that made him one of the most determined and driven people I have ever known. I admired his bravery in his early years when he faced adversity. His love and respect for his family made him so certain of what he wanted for all of you that he became the living example of what any of us can become when we are severely driven and certain in our hearts that we can do anything we set our minds to. He was a smart man and a big leader. I could always count on his smart advice and his special way of getting right to the point. He was a mentor many times to me and I am sure to many who will read this. I loved and respected the "tough guy" but also knew kind-hearted and compassionate person who would help anyone out when they needed it. He helped people he knew and those he did not. He was honorable in that he shared what was given to him and that is a lesson for all of us. For all the ways he led his life what I admired most is the deep love he had for you Sharon, because he knew(and told us) his life was successful because you were there with him - and his love and devotion to both Kimmie and Lisa who we all know were his greatest pride and joy. When I think of someone who has left a considerable impression on my life I will always think of Mike. And love him for all of it. Love, Cheryl
