Fr. Michael Minogue

El Mirage - Minogue, Father Michael Joseph, 82, of El Mirage, Arizona died on February 26, 2018 in Surprise, Arizona. Father Michael was born on February 19, 1936 in Scariff, County Clare, Ireland to Michael and Helena (O'Driscoll) Minogue. At age 17, he moved to England where he was active in the Alfreton Arts Center, performing lead roles in Shakespeare and many other plays. In 1963, he joined the British Merchant Navy and served for 5 years as Chief Petty Officer. In 1968, he found the hotel business to his liking, working as assistant manager for top rated hotels in Honolulu, New York, Florida, and San Francisco. Father Michael began his theological studies in 1975, attending St. Mary's College Seminary in Kentucky and then St. John's College Seminary in Camarillo, California. He was ordained May 23, 1981 in the Diocese of Phoenix. From 1981 to 1986 he was associate pastor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale. From 1986 to 1988 he was pastor at Most Holy Trinity in Phoenix. From 1988 to 1993 he was pastor of Our Lady of the Valley in Phoenix. From 1993 to 2005 he was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish where he became the founding pastor of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West. Father retired on June 1, 2005. In his retirement he continued to serve throughout the Diocese, especially at St. Clement of Rome in Sun City. Father Michael loved traveling throughout his life making trips to Rome, The Holy Land and various Marian Shrines. Father Michael was a compassionate person who was loved by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother P.J. Minogue and sister Kathleen Kelly. Father Michael is survived by his brother Thomas Minogue; sisters: Mary St. Lawrence and Anna O'Connell; sister-in-law Breda Minogue and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church 15800 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 14818 W. Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West. Entombment will follow at 1:30 p.m.at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix.
