Michael John Howard Mulroy

Phoenix - Michael John Howard Mulroy, born in Montreal, Quebec, on October 26,1935, the only son of Michael Bernard and Mary Kathleen Howard Mulroy, passed away from Covid-19 in Phoenix on January 7, 2021. Husband to much loved wife, Ann Towles Magee Mulroy. Mike was preceded in death by Patricia O'Malley Mulroy, his college sweetheart and wife of 45 years. Dad of Kevin (Joan), Colleen (Andy), Courtney (Mike), Constance (John), Tom (Pamela). Mike was a proud grandfather of twelve and great grandfather of five. He never missed a family gathering.

Mike attended DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and earned a master's degree in Commerce at McGill University. He was an instructor of Industrial Engineering Graduate Studies at IIT. He was involved in engineering programs throughout his 38-year career, employed by AT&T, DEC and Motorola Inc. He had programs in 22 countries, rising from Manufacturing Engineering to Director of Civil Engineering of site selection, site development, design and construction of engineering labs and light assembly manufacturing in 22 countries. Mike became Vice President of Motorola Environmental Affairs and remained in that capacity until retirement in 1998. He was an active participant in a variety of community affairs, including AZ Commissions on Hazardous Material and Water Availability and Purity, The Casa, Environmental and Political committees, the Heard and Phoenix Historical museums, the Institute of Industrial Engineering and the Industrial Development Research Council, the Honor Health Hospital, the ABIL program for rehabilitation and the US Amateur Hockey Association. Mike was an active member of the Franciscan Renewal Center, in Paradise Valley Arizona. He became a member of the Secular Franciscan Order in 1990.

Mike was fascinated by history and travel, visiting over 100 countries. He wrote books, skied well into his 70's and boxed in the CYO. He loved golf, playing hockey, drinking single malt scotch, eating oysters and anything chocolate. His motto was: Life is short and it is wise to start each meal with desert. Mike loved his friends and most of all, his family.

Mike to me became the adult in the room when he took time to introduce himself to me as a then scared, blind-folded pledge to his De Paul fraternity at a Como Inn hazing event. Since then, I have always looked up to him as a most cool gentleman. His example then and since has had a big influence on me. Thank you Mike, Jim

I worked with Mike at Motorola. He always had a good word to say to all. Condolences to his family. His smile was infectious.

I started working at Motorola reporting to Mike. The first thing he told me he was Mike and Mr Mulroy was his father after I called him Mr Mulroy. I worked for him several different times and he brought me back from Florida to work for him. Ann worked for me before taking a job in Phoenix. I always looked up to Mike and considered him my mentor. He will always be in my memory of great people.

My father, Pat Robinson, worked closely with Mike at Motorola, and always praised him in both a personal and professional capacity. I met Mike once or twice as a child when my parents got together with the Mulroys. I am very sorry for your loss and pray that God gives you strength.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I am saddened to hear of this virus taking another member of our Casa family. I remember Mike as being very involved and passionate about the Franciscan Renewal Center during the time I was on staff. May he now enjoy living in the Light and eternal peace, free of the illnesses and traumas of this life.

Uncle Mike had the best memory of anyone I met. His grasp of details was astounding and he knew so much about Irish history. It was always so interesting talking with him. As a child I loved getting postcards from him when he traveled to South Africa and Indonesia. He kept us all in touch with Canadian relatives and loved to email jokes and videos. His death is such a huge loss. Til we meet again, Uncle Mike
