Mike Pike Obituary

Mike Pike, 43, of Conway, Arkansas, died Wednesday night, November 8, 2006, at his home. Pike was born Aug. 19, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Augusta Abigail Pike of Conway and the late Floyd Elmer Pike. Pike was graduated from Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of DeVry Institute and Arizona State University. He came to Conway from Phoenix to work for Acxiom but for the last few years has been an entrepreneur, with investments in Central Arkansas real estate and other projects. He was a member of the boards of United Way of Faulkner County, Independent Living Services and a supporter and contributor to Conway Symphony Orchestra and CASA. He was a member of the Conway Chamber of Commerce and Conway Country Club. Pike was a big contributor to the Conway Symphony Orchestra and also volunteered three years to rent a moving van and help haul chairs, stands and instruments from UCA to Beaver fork Lake for the annual Pops in the Park concert. He was an active member of Conway Rotary Club, being named a Paul Harris Fellow two times, an award given for outstanding community service. He was serving as chairman of the international service committee and welcomed visiting Rotarians from other countries into his home. With a group of other Rotarians, he traveled to West Africa, twice, to help organize and fund a water project for a village on the coast of Ghana that had been without water for years. The project has recently been completed, and the people of Upper Town Kormantse now have flowing water. Pike is survived by his mother, Augusta Abigail Pike and his fiancé, Julie Higgins, both of Conway. Memorials may be made to the Conway Symphony Orchestra, the United Way of Faulkner County, Independent Living Services or the Rotary International Foundation. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion, Iowa. Private burial will follow at Coggon Cemetery. Dear Mike,
We only met briefly through our good friend Charmon, however the news of loss of your young life weighs heavy on my heart. You had a smile that lit up a room. My hope is that the grief of all of your loved ones is soon eased by joyful thoughts and happy memories of you.
Rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to all,
Kim

Mike was a close friend of my sister's. Even though I did not know him very well I do know he was a great man and will be missed immensely.
