Like many others, I too am so very saddened by Dr. Nutley's death. He was truly a cut above the rest. He was never too busy and always made me laugh, particularly when he would plop down on his swivel chair very casually and tell me how busy things were. I surely knew I was in the best hands possible, whether for surgery or an office visit. I also knew without a doubt, when I recommended him to someone, that they would receive the very best care anywhere. No one was ever disappointed.
One of my fondest memories is of him telling us about an upcoming trip to Walt Disney World with the entire family, several years ago. He was looking forward to it and then to returning to his practice, which he loved.
My greatest sympathies to Peter's entire family, including Cheryl and Stephanie.
He will be missed; there just isn't anyone else like him. God rest his soul.

Dear Nutley Family:
I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Nutley's passing. I have been a patient of his for a few years now, and he was by far my favorite doctor! I had such trouble with my sinuses for so long, saw so many doctors with no answers....and then Dr. Nutley came along :) I was told he was the BEST, and he most definitely was. He instantly took an active interest in getting me well, and he did just that. I will forever be grateful to him, and feel very blessed to have known him. He will be greatly missed. May God be with your family during this difficult time.

I have waited many days to write this because my heart is broken as I know many are...when I was little the first time I saw Dr. Nutley I thought he looked liked a God and that he was going to be someone whom was really going to help me. I had seen alot of doctors but I never had that feeling that I got from him. I of course became his patient and he did do many procedures on me and he was the one that made me look like a real person with ears unlike those of Dopey or Dumbo that many kids called me. I can remember on visits to the office he would take me around and show people my ears as they were a masterpiece of the great talent that God gave to him. Those ears were big enough for bugs to seek refuge in and were constantly infected cause anything could fly right on in. He also did other surgeries on me in my childhood and when I grew up and got married and had little ones he was the only one I trusted with my babies. It was funny to have him remove my daughters tonsils in the same hospital where he had done mine and it being where I was born there as was she. Good Sam would not have been one of the best hospitals without Dr. Nutley. He also put tubes in my sons ears when he was 6 months old and his ears are bigger than normal but nothing like his mom's thank God for that! Our family loved Dr. Nutley and we all have the utmost of respect for him. I pray that you will all seek peace and comfort and that God will extend this too all of you! It has been a very long time since I have had a hug from him but I know that there will be a day when I will get another one!

Nancy & family,
I will forever remember that smile of Peter's. He was my friend, my doctor and my mixed doubles partner on the tennis court. There were many times when I knew that he probably didn't want to flash that big ole smile at me, (after blowing that volley) but he always did. His kindness and zest for life showed in every aspect of his life. He will be missed by many, even those of us who didn't see him very often.
Nancy, please know that your friends are here for you and we love you dearly.

Hearing the sad news of Dr. Nutleys' passing, knocked the wind out of me.
As a patient, you think doctors are supposed to be invincible. Certainly Dr. Nutley was. After all, he was my Superman, with Super Powers.
(Isn't that what that shiney, silver disc on his forehead, was all about?)
We all know he had magic power in his hands. Every time I look in the mirror, I see Dr. Nutleys' Magic staring back at me.
Thank you for your gift that touched so many.
For over 30 years you made me laugh. Your quiet sense of humor, just like Superman, appeared out of no where, and made me forget why I was really there. I will miss you.
My thoughts and prayers go to the entire Nutley Family, Cheryl and Stephanie, and to all of those who were lucky enough to experience his Magic Powers.

I worked for one of Dr Nutley's associates years ago...and later became a patient of his. I can't forget Dr Nutley's smile, how generous he was with his time and encouragement, and his passion for life. My condolences to Nancy and the children, his extended family, Stephanie, Cheryl, and the others who knew and loved Dr Nutley!

I am not a man of many words but feel the need to tell this story. Upon finding I had stage 4 squamous cell cancer that spread to my lymph nodes in my neck, I confided in my sons neurosurgeon from CRS, Dr. Manwaring who saved my sons life many times. He said if I were you I would go see Dr. Peter Nutley he is the BEST! Turns out my son knew him from crs many years ago. While other Drs couldn't find the primary source of my cancer Dr. Nutley was able to on the very far back of my tongue and he never gave up on me. I was not a smoker and the dentists said it was my gums bleeding. My wife and children are VERY gratetful for him saving my life. I lost my dad at age 3 so having my kids lose there dad was weighing very heavy on me. Dr. Nutley seemed like a no nonsense guy ,honest, true dr who cared to his core. Gona miss you DOC! We can never begin to thank you enough and also thank the Nutley family for thier sacrifices for his patients sake. I am alive seven years later for them. Thank you!

We all loved Peter. Whether it be at the club practising our putting, hearing about one of his great rounds, or seeing him at the office, he was nothing short of perfection. He was our favorite family doctor, and playing partner. He always told me that playing golf with my Dad was a joy to him, whether or not my Dad's cancer would permit him to finish the round. Peter, to me, you will always be sublime. Godspeed, may all your shots be eagles and aces our friend...we'll see you down the road...

I was so very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Nutley beginning in the 1980's serving mutual patients at Children's Rehabilitative Services. The compassion and dedication he gave to the hearing impaired children and their parents was unsurpassed. I would like to speak on behalf of all audiologists in the state of Arizona who were touched by Dr. Nutley's life and work. He cannot be replaced in our minds or in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family, patients and friends who will greatly miss him.

Dear Nancy, Jennifer and Cynthia, and Uncle Pete:
"Buddy Boy" holds a very special place in our family's heart. My mom, Aunt JoAnn, felt a very special bond with him. She spent many years with him and his family while growing up in Chicago, and spoke of Buddy with great pride, respect and love. In recent years, she turned to him for advice and support in her own battle with cancer. We could not thank him enough for the love and comfort he showed to her and to all of us.
I hope that your memories of him will bring you joy, and that the thought of joining him again will bring you peace. I'm sure that together with his mother, Mary, and mine, Aunt JoAnn, there is quite a feast. :)
Sorry we cannot be with you in person, but you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Lara (Cipolla) Falconer and family

I HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES OF GORWING UP WITH MY BROTHER. I REMEMBER HIM AS A TEEN-AGER DANCING IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR. I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME THE TWO OF US WENT TO THE SHOW ALONE AND WHEN IT CAME TIME TO COME HOME WE DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE BUS BECAUSE WE SPENT IT ON CANDY AND POPCORN. I REMEMBER MY PARENTS BEING SO PROUD BECAUSE IT WAS GOING TO BECOME A DOCTOR. I RMEMBER THE DAY HIS FIRST CHILD WAS BORN. IT WAS THE SAME DAY HE GRADUATED MEDICAL SCHOOL. I KNOW THAT HIS PERSONALITY IS THE SAME AS OUR MOTHERS. HOW LUCKY GOD IS NOW TO HAVE THEM BOTH. I LOVE MY BROTHER AND AM VERY PROUD TO HAVE HIM AS MY BROTHER LOVE CANDY

Dr. Nutley was my hero--he was my "nose" doctor for many years and performed more surgeries on my sinuses than I can remember. When I heard that he had "retired" I was shocked and felt that something wasn't quite right; but hoped that his retirement had been for good reasons and not due to illness. Now I am deeply saddened to read that he has passed away; my sincere sympathy to his family. Also, to Stephanie and Cheryl, I am sorry for the loss you two ladies must feel. I can still hear him calling for Stephanie every time he needed something--you three ran one of the finest medical offices I have ever seen. Dr. Nutley was the best and he treated all of his patients with care and kindness--that sly sense of humor he had did not go unnoticed. He was a good man and will be missed by many.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.

It was with sadness when we read the paper yesterday and saw Dr. Nutley's face. He started taking care of our family when he first started with Dr. Piepergerdes, not sure of the spelling. He took care of all of our family over the years and we all thought of him as a friend who made things better for us. They would talk about dove hunting and how they love all of Arizona. We sold sauces and spices, Arizona Song Dog, and he loved when we would take products to him. I know all of you will miss him greatly. Phoenix has lost a wonderful Dr and man. God bless you all.

I hold such fond memories of our double dates with Peter and Nancy. We were all movie lovers and enjoyed going to a show and then giving our critique as if we were each Siskel or Ebert. But the best ones were when Jimmy and Peter disagreed. Nancy and I would just sit back and watch the two of them go at it debating their positions until one of them would finally say "...but I could be wrong." We've lived away from Phx for some time now, but as true friends, whenever we saw Peter and Nancy, the time and distance was gone; We embraced as good friends again. Peter, until we meet again...

We became patients shortly after Dr Nutley began his practice in an office as big as a closet, but Dr Nutley became the consummate doctor a patient wishes for. We grieve the loss of such a wonderful person and doctor. Our sympathy and prayers to his wife, daughters and family.

Dear Family, friends and staff of Dr. Nutley:
He was our family ENT for 30 yrs and did surgery on my nose in 1978. When I as in the operating room and still awake he asked me to take my St. Christopher medalian off, please and I replied if you take your watch off which was this large silver/turquoise Indain style watch. He laughed and agreed. He did care greatly for his patients. He was a very nice man and we enjoyed visiting with him. We were just talking about him the first part of last week because I had read he was one of the "Top Docs" again.
He will be missed by all those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
The Miller and Friend Families (Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ)

As an anesthesiologist, I worked with Dr. Nutley since 1980. He was the consumate professional and an excellent surgeon. And as good a doctor as he was, he was even a better person. He treated everyone with dignity and respect. I never saw him flustered or short in the operating room. He always sought excellence, whether in the operating room, the tennis court or the golf course. He will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him and worked with him.

Aristotle taught true friendship is possible only among “equals”. Happily for me, Peter did not adhere to that philosophy.
I was proud he thought of me as his friend and the many kindnesses he and his wife Nancy showed to my family and me. It seems like only yesterday when Peter, Mark, Andy and me were sitting on the tennis court bench at Ecanto, laughing and joking about our tennis match. I wish we would have known then how dear that time was that we spent together. How wonderful it would be to go back in time and tell those young men “guys it will never get better than this.” You can never make new “old friends,” and when they fall, a little bit of you goes with them. Until we meet on the other side of the net… God Bless Peter.

We Nutleys are a private family and not many will likely sign the guest book. However, I am certain that if our mother were here, she would want something written. And if it were our mother doing the writing, she would say - we love you and we miss you, forever.
