Peter Rosier Obituary

Dr. Peter Rosier, retired physician who lived a life of unbridled passion
and accomplishment, died Thursday, March 15, 2007 after a brave fight with cancer. He was 65. Dr. Rosier was a third generation doctor who pursued medicine and each of his diverse interests according to a Greek maxim quoted by John Kennedy that he had taken to heart while still a boy; that happiness in life derives from the fullest use of one's talents and powers along the lines of excellence. After Dartmouth college ('63), he completed medical school at SUNY Downstate School of Medicine, followed by a residency at Duke University where he chose a specialty in Surgical Pathology. During the Vietnam War he served in the Public Health Service and ultimately set up private practice in Ft. Myers, Florida, going on to found a private blood bank that benefited much of the county. After his beloved first wife Patricia (Delman) died at 43, he took a moratorium from medicine and divided his time between his native New York and Florida, later adding a home in Massachusetts before moving to Arizona with his wife Gail (Fouts) Rosier in 2005. He had been married to the former Eleni Goltsis in the interim. Dr. Rosier was passionate about social justice as well as classical art and nature and had traveled extensively in the tropics. He possessed a rare will to be sentient and to live on his own terms, spearheading true-to-form a last trip to the jungle in Costa Rica while paralyzed and battling disease. His ardent love of justice and truth and his sense of charity he bestowed on his children Elizabeth and Jacob, his unswerving companions all their lives. Elizabeth's partner Ruth Sternberg, Jacob's wife Vicki and their two sons Patrick and Jackson survive him too as do his wife Gail's children; his stepchildren Conner Strobel and Logan Bernstein. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 24 at The Four Seasons Resort, Troon North, Scottsdale, Arizona, at 9:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Doctors Without Borders, or Hospice of the Valley of Phoenix would honor his memory.
