Phyllis Thompson Obituary


Phyllis W. Thompson, 88, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2002. Born in North Vernon, Indiana, September 21, 1914, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lee P. Thompson, who was the founding Dean of the College of Engineering at Arizona State University. Her four children, Carole Lee Stahnke, Craig P. Thompson, Louise T. Webb and Kenneth Carl Thompson, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, survive her. During her lifetime, Phyllis was very active in the Registrar's Office at ASU, Cosine Club, Tempe Garden Club, American Red Cross, ASU Faculty Wives, Tempe Women's Club and Gilbert Historical Society. She and Lee were avid square dancers all of their married life. They both attended Red Mountain Methodist Church in Mesa. Friends and family will be gathering at 1260 E. Malibu Drive, Tempe on Friday, December 6th from 4-7p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Lee P. and Phyllis W. Thompson Scholarship Program at Arizona State University, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
