Porter Dixon Obituary

Dixon, Porter Blake
of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on July 7th, 2010 at the age of 23 as a result of an accident at Lake Powell. Porter was born December 31, 1986 in Flagstaff, Arizona and is survived by his mother Coni Porter Kimball, his father Kenneth Dwight Dixon, and siblings Branden (Ashley), Jayme, Devry (Maggie), Kendria (Brandon) Holyoak, Tanner, and Connor Kimball. Porter was a real hero to his nieces Abigale and London, and nephews Brayton, Killion, Brodock, Deacon, Slade, and Lincoln. Everyone who knew him loved him. Also celebrating his life are his stepmother Janet Maynes Dixon and his grandparents Doris Dixon, Dwight Dixon, and Elden and Pat Porter. Although Porter spent only his first eight years in Flagstaff, he considered it his home. He attended schools in Flagstaff and Mesa and graduated from Mountain View High School in 2005. Porter has a quick sense of humor, is kind, gentle and sensitive. He has a humble and positive determination. He loves his family and his God. Even though his life was short, he had a great influence on us because of his spirit of compassion and happiness. He earned his Eagle Scout Award and enjoyed playing sports with his brothers and sister. He loves music, wrote lyrics, and played guitar. He also loves the outdoors especially camping, fishing, and hiking, and spent some of his last happy moments doing so with his family. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2152 E. Adobe in Mesa. Interment in Mesa will follow the services. Dear Porter and Dixon Families:

Katy and I send our love and condolences to you at this time. I didn't know Porter, but if he is anything like his two grandfathers that I know, he is a good man. I say "is" because he still lives, just in another place. May the Lord bless you with His Comforting Spirit at this time. We love you and pray for you in your hour of grieving.

Dixon Family - We shared many great time together in Flag, and this news struck a blow to all of us. You are the family that had a kid the same age as every kid in my family... and then for everyone to actually get along was pretty fantastic. Regretfully we are unable to attend the funeral... some of us with work commitments and others like Ben and my folks are out of the state today. Rebirth comes from death, and I know that Heaven Father and Porter are with you during these hard days. All our love and friendship - Jake Johnson & Family

Dear Dixon Family,
My family and I pulled into our camping spot at Lake Powell around the corner from your houseboat on Wednesday. We saw the search plane and others on foot looking for someone. We quickly learned about the situation with Porter. A few hours later we were so sad to learn of Porter's death. We too shed tears of sorrow at his passing that night. It broke our hearts to hear the sweet sentiments coming over the load speaker from your houseboat. Our son is currently serving a mission in Mesa, Arizona. When we learned that Porter was from Mesa we felt an instant bond. We got home last night and I wanted to put a face to the name. What a handsome young man. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Cathy Ipsen

I am sorry to learn of Porter's tragic loss. He was one of my most favorite students at Mountain View along with Kendria and Brandon, and Tanner. Porter made me laugh and memories of him will remain in my heart forever. Please know that I feel and understand your loss and know the void Porter's death will leave in your family. He will be missed especially because he was loved so much.

Porter's death is a tragic loss. He assuredly was one of my most favorite students ever, as were Kendria and Brandon, and Tanner. Porter will be missed by all who loved him--I will always remember him as one who made me laugh and was so memorable in my English class at Mountain View. He holds a special place in my heart. My condolences to your family to have lost such a vibrant young life too soon...I understand and know your loss.

Porter spent a lot of time at our house as he grew up with my son and all of the boys in our neighborhood. He was absolutely adorable, charming and gave me the best hugs. I am so sorry for the loss to the family and friends that meant so much to him.
