Regina Beliak Obituary

Regina Beliak, 83, of Phoenix, passed away on June 3, 2006. Regina
was born April 4, 1923 in Poland and was interred in concentration camps during World War II, surviving the infamous "Death March" at the end of the war. She and her husband had their first child, "Ben" Haim Dov Beliak, in 1948 in Germany and moved to Mason City, Iowa, in 1949 where their second son, Robert, was born. They moved to Phoenix in 1953. Regina was active in Beth Hebrew, Beth Israel and Beth El Synagogues as well as with Hadassah and Cafe Europa Holocaust Survivors. She was the the last Zylberstein to pass away; one of nine children, Regina and four of her siblings survived the Holocaust. Regina was preceded in death by her youngest son, James, who died in 1983. She will be interred next to him. Services were held Monday, June 5th at Sinai Mortuary. Interment took place at Beth Israel/Beth Hebrew/Workmen's Circle Cemetery. Regina was a wealthy woman in her love of amily, defying the Nazi's who told her she would never have children or grand children, she proved them wrong. A mother and business woman, she was outspoken, especially about anything that smacked of prejudice and she had a delightful sense of humor. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Rabbi Haim Dov and Lynn; Robert and Marci; her Grandchildren, Tamara (Zev), Ari, Hanan, Avi, Sari and Risa and her Great Grandson, Dror.
