Richard Albert Obituary

Albert, Richard Luzerne
Richard Luzerne Albert passed away on September 28, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Galesburg, Illinois to Luzerne and Eileen (nee Severs) Albert, Richard arrived on March 28, 1934. A proud member of the United States military, he served for both the Army and the Navy during the Korean War. On May 3, 1958, Richard married the love of his life, his soul mate, his best friend, Dorothy Ann Ferguson. Together they spent 54 years adoring each other. Their marriage mirrored that of what fairytales are made of. They had the greatest love story of all time. She lived for him, and he for her. Richard was an outgoing jokester who was full of life, always being the life of the party. Being a "Jack of All Trades", he knew something about everything. To know him, was to love him. His kind nature and generous personality showed in how much he cared for his family. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren completed his world. The backyard was made into a playground for the grandkids, and great grandkids. Richard was known for his cooking. Making people eat was his specialty. Richard is survived by his daughters Deborah Gardner, and Wendy Smith; son Richard Albert; grandchildren Jason Schnittker, Jenna Schnittker, Johnny Hammond, Madison Cain, R.J. Albert, Brittany Albert, Paul Albert, Eric Albert, and Mary Albert; great grandchildren Blake Schnittker, Kaelyn Schnittker, Casen Schnittker, and Teegan Sambell; and brothers John Albert, Kenneth Albert, and Tony Albert. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, his parents, grandsons Parker Cain, and Nolan Smith, and brother Arthur Albert. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park & Funeral Care 6747 East Broadway Road Mesa, Arizona 85206 (480)830-4422. I was sadden to hear of Richard's passing. I was his pharmacist for many years at Bashas. He always put a smile on my face and had such an upbeat attitude. He told great stories and always knew my name. He will be missed.

Dad, You were the best father any girl could ever ask for. You showed me what unconditional love meant. You showed me the meaning of family and how to treat a woman and what loyalty and friendship meant. You weren't just my father, but my friend. I will miss our lunches and going shopping together and just hanging out and even taking you to the doctor. You made every experience special. You always made me laugh. You taught me how to bring the joy out of every experience, even the painful ones. You gave me my sense of humor. Everyone who knew you loved you. You brought joy to everyone you knew. You loved my mother for 54 years and were faithful and loving to her every day of her life. I will truly miss you Dad. Rest in Peace and give Mom a kiss for me. Until we meet again....I love you so very much....my heart is aching but I know you are where you want to be.....and that brings me peace. Take care of Parker and Nolan.

With Uncle Al's jokes and Aunt Dorothy's laughter, they will always be in my heart along with a great big smile. As happy as I am that they are together again, this world is a lesser place without them.

Love and sympathies for your loss,

I met Richard just a few short months ago and was fortunate to do so. He had that rare ability to always make your day a little better, with his warm blend of rascal, good-natured humor and a genuine affection for people. We'll miss you my friend. Rest well.

I knew Dick many years ago in Mokena. What a nice man, great husband, wonderful father and good friend to all of us in the neighborhood. Quiet, gentle, fun loving and always there to help when you needed something. His daughter Debbie baby sat for my three sons. I can recall as if it were yesterday, Dick was teaching Debbie to drive and there was a mishap as she was driving the car to(through) the garage door. Dick took the blame and knew he had made her nervous. He was so gentle; I realized this is the way I would love to raise my children. I try to model my family after him but I must admit I did not have his patience. I am sure that he is in heaven and when he arrived Dorothy was anxiously waiting and singing one of her lovely songs for him. My sympathies to his children. In my senior years I still question sometimes if children that had a less desirable set of parents don't have it easier when losing them. I pray that the three of you will always remember how fortunate you were to have had such great parents. My prayers will be there for them and for all of you. The world has lost a great man, I will remember him always. Len Vranicar

Richard was a bright light and always put a smile on my face when he would call out my name on the way to the pharmacy counter. And I didn't care he called me 'Linda' when my name badge said 'Kathi', he was joking and laughing with ME. He eventually got it right and we became friends, a friendship I will treasure always. I love you,Deborah, and my heart goes out to all of your family during this difficult time. God Bless, Kathi (or 'Linda')
