Richard Weiss Obituary
92, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016. Dick, a lawyer by education, graduated Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Michigan Law School. World War II saw his service on Guam as a Marine 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of the California Bar for more than 60 years but decided early on to make home building his career. In his corporate life, Dick was head of housing for Sunset International Corporation, Executive Vice President of Levitt & Sons and President of The Larwin Group, a subsidiary of CNA Financial Corporation. His community service included the Board and Executive Committee of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Mayor's, LA 2000 Committee and the Board of the Regional Institute of Southern California (RISC). Personally, Dick built housing tracts throughout Southern California and in the 80's, he and his wife, Maryanne, expanded to build multi-million dollar homes. Moving from Southern California to Colorado in the late 80's, they started Gustare Ltd. The couple moved to AZ in 1996, and today Gustare® is an umbrella corporation housing Gustare Fine Jewelry, a manufacturing company and Gustare Real Estate Development. Dick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Maryanne, his sister Barbi Weinberg (Larry), his six children, Nancy Tsoneff (David), Bob Weiss (Cheryl O'Connor), Ron Weiss (Sheila), Lauran Callan (Michael), Elayne Canterbury, Diana Baker, his eight grandchildren, Stephen Tsoneff (Jessie Siegel), Laura Reingold (Jesse), Brandon Weiss, Madeleine Weiss, Casey Callan, Cameron Canterbury, Lindsay Canterbury, Ashton Baker and his four great-grandchildren, Anna Reingold, Noah Reingold, Jemma Tsoneff and Josie Tsoneff. Memorial Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 10815 North 84th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 11:30 AM. Reception immediately following.
