Robert Bugh Obituary
Robert Ross Bugh Sr., 71, of Phoenix, Arizona passed peacefully from this Earth into the hands of God Tuesday, March 18th at Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn. He was surrounded by his wife, Margie, family and friends. Bobby is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margie; children Cathline Bugh Barreras, Michelle Bugh Doherty (John), Robert Ross Bugh Jr. (Staci); grandchildren Sabrina Williams (Jake), Tony Jr. and Siara Barreras, Kelly and Kayla Doherty, Aaron Bugh; great-grand child Rylee Williams; three brothers and two sisters. Bobby began working at age six shining shoes for a nickel to help support his family. As an adult Bobby worked in the aerospace industry as a painter and general manager of the paint department. He also enjoyed body and paint work on cars and operated a small shop in his backyard. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was a well-respected martial artist. He began studying Aikido in the 70's, opened his own dojo in his back yard and taught jujutsu. In 1995 Bob was recognized with his own style of martial arts. His school was named Shobu-Ryu Aiki-Tori-Te Jujutsu/Kobujutsu, Bugh Ha. In 2003 he was recognized as Soke (grand master) after 30 years of service to the arts. In 2006 he was granted the rank of 10th dan. Since then he has been recognized internationally and inducted into the United Nations Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Action Martial Arts 'Hall of Honors' in 2011. Bobby also volunteered with the Phoenix Fire Department at Station One for 10 years; and at Encanto Elementary School for 10 years where he often translated at conferences, supported school events, and every December Santa Claus mysteriously appeared for the children. Services will be Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Saint Mary's Basilica, 231 N. 3rd Street, Phoenix, AZ. Viewing at 8:45 a.m. and Funeral Mass to follow at 9:45 a.m.

Soke Rest in peace my friend and sensei, in the time i met and knew Bobby, We very quickly became The best friends, he came here to the UK we welcomed him into our home and family, we hit it of so to speak straight away like brothers, we both had similar back grounds armed forces families and Martial Arts, there was a great bond between us, and bobby and Margie done the same to us welcomed us to there home and there family and like wise all of Bobby and Margie's family also made us apart of the Bugh Family, he was a great Man with a Massive heart he was like a Sensei, Dad, Best Friend, and Brother all in one, our lives are all the better for having met and known you Bobby, Lord take care of and rest this great warrior and friend he has fought along hard tough battle, and to all Our Family in Arizona Our Prayer's and thoughts and Love are with you all

I first met Bobby at the Dojo in 1984, one class and I was hooked and sore as hell the next day! I always left the Dojo relaxed and energized even though I got beat up and beat myself up for at least 2 hours. The Dojo provided me balance in a very hectic life at the time and I would have not graduated from ASU without Bobby, the Dojo and the Family. Bobby was at the heart of it all and man what a Heart! Bobby taught me how to extend myself beyond what I thought I couldn't do, he taught the importance of Family, dedication and discipline. In the words of O-Sensei, the Art of Budo is simply LOVE; love of life, family and of all things, and Bobby personified the meaning of Budo! The Dojo was a home away from home and I was always welcome, they are like Family and I am blessed to know them all. I extend my sincerest condolences to the Family on their loss. He will live forever in my heart and mind, and the lessons I learned from him will carry me through life. Thanks for your friendship and leadership, with love. Rest in Peace.

I had the great good fortune of meeting Bobby when a friend took me to his dojo for a visit. I was instantly "hooked" and spent much of the next 8 years learning from this true martial arts master. In addition to teaching me his art, he also taught me humility and showed me how to be a truly good person. Bobby and Margie always welcomed me into their home as if I was part of their family. Bobby is, and will always be, a real life hero to me. Thank you for all your wisdom, Soke, rest in peace!

Bobby Bugh lived his life to the highest standards of love, respect, family and friendship. Not going to lie... I've heard the stories of your childhood from my father, Jerry Hall!! Now you both are together causing chaos up in heaven. Don't forget you're now an angel to watch over us.
Thank you for living your life through example. You and Margie have left many legacies behind without your knowledge. My children were blessed to have you in their lives when they were young. Margie and family ~ I can't tell you how saddened I am to hear about Bobby. I was only a part of your family for a few short years, so it surprises me to realize how many of my memories have to do with you and Bobby...starting with you feeding my brother jalapenos at a Super Bowl Party! If I have this many wonderful memories of time spent with you, I can only imagine how full your hearts must be with them; bring them out and share them as often as you can, so that you can honor Bobby's memory and remind people of what a good and kind soul he was. I met Bob in 1984. I was a new student at the dojo and just rolling out of high school. The next 15 years were spent rolling around, flying around and falling around his dojo. Freezing cold in the winter and blistering hot in the summers. I married his daughter Michelle and have two beautiful daughters. He and Margie welcomed me into their family with open arms and made me feel like a son. Given the circumstances, I was expecting to be banished. Bob is one of my heroes. He dedicated his life to his family. There was really nothing else. He showed me, merely by living his life, how to be a friend, a husband, a father, and a man. I cannot imagine what my life would look like if I had not followed my brother to his dojo 10,483 days ago. Bob Bugh, you made me a better man and you will always be some of the wind beneath my wings. Rest in peace my friend and thank you for everything.
