Robert Dillard Obituary

Dillard, Robert Carl
Recently retired to Prescott, Arizona, Bob died at the age of 80 on Saturday, March 31, 2012 after a battle with cancer and macular degeneration. He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Linda; his son Doug (Charon) Dillard of Glendale, Arizona; three grandchildren, Cameron (Tyree), Robert (Jill ) and Deanna (Josh); eight great grandchildren: Christian, Chase, Marcus, Emma, Nathan, Camille, Dillon and Kyle. Bob was born in Prattville, Alabama but lived in numerous states before settling on Arizona as his home. Those of us that knew Bob understood well what a keen businessman he was. He had long careers in the food and healthcare industries. Perhaps he was most well known as the Chief Financial Officer for A.J. Bayless Markets in the 60s-80s. As CFO he had many varied responsibilities, but his favorite was that of labor relations. He was the chief negotiator of the many Labor Agreements with the Teamster's and United Food and Commercial Workers Unions. He was respected by his peers, union officials and those he worked with on both sides of the table. After retiring from the world of business twice, Bob's financial background unexpectedly lead him to his favorite job title, Professor. He spent four years as an adjunct professor teaching finance classes in Glendale Community College night programs. Due to failing eyesight he finally retired permanently at 77. Bob was a much loved husband, friend, father, grandfather & great grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him. Bob proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and a military funeral service will be held in his honor Friday, May 18 at 2:30pm at the Veteran's Cemetery in Prescott. Contributions in his remembrance can be made to Hospice Family Care, 3195 Stillwater Drive, Prescott, AZ 86305 or to the Veteran's support organization of your choice.

I remember Cousin Bob primarily due to his genuine caring for relatives and friends. Next was the fact that he had such a fun sense of humor and could always bring a smile and laughter to everyone around him. My condolences to Linda, his other family members and his many friends.

I had the honor to know Bob and first met him in the 70's while working for Bayless. After the company defaulted in the mid 80s, we would all go different ways in our lives. I would have never dreamed our paths would cross again 20 some years later when I would learn that we would be related in some twisted way as in-laws (or out-laws as Bob would say). Bob became the Great Grandfather of my grandson. As most would say who knew Bob, he was an inspiration and a true southern gentlemen who sadly has left a void in his circle of family and friends. Adios my friend...

Hey, Cuz...whenever we were together I could always count on a fun time, crazy jokes, and challenging bantering. Then there were the "Remember when" stories that we always had to differ on just enough to keep these old stories interesting... at least to you and me. Whatever am I going to do without you on this planet? Thanks so much, my dear Cousin Bob, for sharing so richly your life experiences, our family history, and your love with me. I loved you dearly, and you will stay alive always in my memories. From "Cuz" Bobbie

Dear Poppo,
You have always been there for me no matter what. Always there to pick me up and guide me back to the right track. Always there to help me when I was in need. No matter what you loved me unconditionally. I love you so and no words can explain on how much I truly look up to you as my hero and nothing will ever change. I love you, as you did me, FOREVER AND UNCONDITIONALLY
