Robert Gradwohl Obituary

Gradwohl, Robert H.
89, passed away August 28th after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. Bob was one of 8 children born and raised in Johnstown Pennsylvania. In 1946 he decided to head west and moved to Phoenix where he worked for RW. Womack Construction in accounting. The following year he was joined in Phoenix by the love of his life Mary Agnes Little also from Johnstown. Bob and Ag were married in St. Mary's Church in 1947 and recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Bob enjoyed a 30 year career as director of purchasing at Smith Pipe and Steel Company. Bob and Ag were charter members of Saints Simon and Jude Parrish and were active members in the community. Their life revolved around this community and the many dear friends God blessed them with. Bob was heavily involved in all aspects of the parish, from President of the Holy Name Society to Chairman of various committees throughout the decades. Bob was a devout Catholic who began the vast majority of his days at 6:15 Mass before going off to work or play. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree Knight. Bob is survived by his wife Mary Agnes, his daughter Kathleen Evely (John) of Las Vegas and son Robert J. Gradwohl (Sharon Ann) of Scottsdale as well as 3 grandchildren: Deanne Evely, David Evely and Matthew Gradwohl. Bob is also survived by two older sisters: Julia McDermott and Mary Louise Drager of Johnstown PA as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Bob lived his life with a simple but strong purpose of God, Family and Friends. Visitation will be Tuesday Sept. 1st from 6-7pm at Hansen Chapel 8314 N. 7th Street followed by the rosary at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Simon and Jude Cathedral on Wednesday Sept. 2nd at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in Bob's name to the Loretta Sisters Retirement Fund 6351 N. 27th Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85017 or St. Vincent De Paul Society or Hospice of the Valley.

Dear Gradwohl Family: My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. Although I never met Robert, after reading about him I know he was a faithful servant of the Lord. I have known Bob and Sharon for many years and I have taught Matt at Brophy. Robert's goodness and love shines through in his family and all he touched in his lifetime. May you find comfort in knowing that he lived a life pleasing to God and because of that he is now with God.
Love,
Patty Bayham Mazier
