Ross Thomson Obituary

Ross Thomson

Cave Creek - Ross Leo Thomson, 67, of Cave Creek, AZ passed suddenly on March 11, 2018. Ross was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on October 1st, 1950. He grew up in Tempe, Arizona and graduated from Tempe High School in 1969. Ross served his country proudly with the 1st Division Marines, during times of war. Upon arriving home, he worked as a distinguished hotshot journeyman lineman for Arizona Public Service, in loyalty, for 46 years of both Phoenix and Flagstaff, until recent retirement.

He has touched the lives of many, near and far, in his lifetime to foster integrity, hard work, and pursuit of passion. He was both generous in his mentoring or guidance to those around him and modest in heroic duties his career required of him. Ross was always there for his community, family, friends, and other vets, without ever wanting credit; his deeds were almost always clandestine and anonymous, which he was loved and admired for by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol; his sons, Ryan, Kyle, and Byron; three grandchildren, Jersey, Leighton, and Parker; step-grandchildren, Dannon and Madison; mother, Clara; three sisters, Barbara, Susan, and Debra; and the communities he gave all compassion to, Flagstaff, Cave Creek, and Sun Valley, ID.

SERVICES: A Celebration of Life is Saturday, March 24th, 3PM at 41820 N. Spur Cross Rd., Cave Creek, AZ. For those who can't make the trip, there will be a separate celebration, scheduled for Flagstaff the following week, 3/31,at Little America, 3PM.

In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations may be made to the "Ross Thomson Memorial Scholarship" for youth sports, addressed to: Suns Foundation, PO Box 284, Sun Valley, ID 83353.

Yesterday while on Netflix the 1969 movie Wild Bunch popped up and it reminded me of the time Ross and I had gone to see it when it first came out. One of the things I remember he said after watching it is that you couldn't count the number of people they killed in that movie. To this day whenever I watch that movie I still lose count. Ross was so right. I miss him. Would have loved to meet up with him before he passed.

Both Ross and I grew up in Tempe, AZ and were neighbors as our houses were only one street apart. He lived on a corner house just off of Roosevelt St and we played many a time in the field and canal on the other side of that street. Glad to see that he went on to live a life of giving and meaning. My condolences to his family and friends.

I worked with Ross in Flagstaff, he was always - always considerate, kind, knowledgeable and did everything with perfection. I always knew I could depend on Ross getting "stuff" done. It was a pleasure working with him and I cherish the time he had available to work with me.

Brother,
I remember you every time I dust the bookcases you made in early woodshop. Quality in work and life. You also always caught the largest fish and the longest red worms.
Prayers for heart comfort to Carol and your loved ones.
