Shirley Maynard-Chamberlin Obituary
Shirley Marie Maynard-Chamberlin, 82 passed away peacefully July 25, 2017, in the loving care of Hospice of the Valley. She was surrounded in love by family and friends. Shirley was born January 20, 1935 in Aledo, Ill. to Alberta and Clyde (Duffy) Maynard and graduated from Aledo High School. She married Melvin Chamberlin August 3, 1955. She and her husband lived in Muscatine and Bettendorf, Iowa, before moving to Arizona in 1975 with current homes in Scottsdale and Prescott, Arizona. Shirley worked several years as the Office Manager of Chamberlin Building Systems and was extremely active in her kids' and grandkids school and sporting activities. Upon retirement, Shirley volunteered her time with the Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by an infant daughter (Cindy Sue Chamberlin), sisters Verna Maynard, Juanita Knight, and brother Bud Maynard. Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, her sister Margie Callahan, of Aledo, Ill., two sons, Rodney Chamberlin (wife-Laurel) of Phoenix, and Jerry Chamberlin (wife-Karla) of Scottsdale Arizona, and three grandchildren, Nathan, Alex and Hannah Chamberlin. A memorial service will be held at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, 4455 E Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253, on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held at the Starfire Golf Club, 11500 N Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85260, immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Shirley's honor to Hospice of the Valley. Had many fun times with Mel and Shirley! They were great traveling friends and fun neighbors. I will forever miss my "bestus" friend and shopping buddy! Love you so much Shirley and I am so glad I got to spend the last week of your life with you! I,ll always remember our forever joke about which one of us is the oldest. RIP my friend!
