Stephen Raffaelli Obituary

Stephen Gregory Raffaelli. The Telluride Bluegrass Festival will be without one of its most dedicated fans this year. Stephen Gregory Raffaelli died, January 30, 2007 at the age of 34. Greg was preceded in death by his father Louis Joseph Raffaelli III, paternal grandfather Louis B. Raffaelli, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lineberger and step grandfather Charles T. Court. He is survived by his wife Laura Foster Raffaelli, daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" and Catherine Anne, parents Melvin and Mary Lou Court, sister Shannon Raffaelli, grandmother Ann Raffaelli, step grandmother Jetta Court, step brother Chris and Robin Court, step sister Jill and Ronny Sluder and constant companion, his white Labrador Caddis. Greg grew up in Texarkana, Texas and attended the University of Arkansas where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. His passion for the West prompted a move to Phoenix in 1995. Greg loved the people of Arizona and took advantage of everything the state had to offer. His infectious laugh and ability to entertain anyone he met has caused him to leave behind a host of loyal and devoted friends from all his endeavors. Greg was pursuing a career as corporate finance officer at Franchise Capital Advisors. He was also active in community affairs as a member of the Executive Council of the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix, a member of the Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament Committee, and the Cajun Foundation. His generosity in time and talent for these causes gained him much recognition. Greg's greatest achievement is his two beautiful girls, Libby and Catherine, his pride and joy. He was a loving husband to his wife and best friend Laura with whom he shared all his passion for life for thirteen years. A memorial service was held at Brophy Chapel, January 31 at 4:00 pm. Funeral arrangements in Texarkana, Texas are not complete. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Mary Elizabeth and Catherine Anne Raffaelli Education Fund, c/o Morgan Keegan, Inc., 100 Morgan Keegan Dr. Suite 500, Little Rock, AR 72202.

Greg was the kind of friend you can go months without seeing and when you would run into him it’s was as if you saw him yesterday. He exuded warmth and friendship, his enthusiasm for life was contagious and made everyone want to be around him. Although he will be missed tremendously, he made a mark here, he affected the people and the world around him and we are all better for having known him. Laura, these words can’t begin to express our sympathy for you and your family. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers!

I was a classmate of Greg's K-12 at P.G.I.S.D. He and I never had cross words; I do not think he was capable of it. Since we all parted after graduation, it is aparent that Greg lived a loving, full life, active in the community, that was a great example to the rest of his PGHS alumni. God be with you, as is Greg.

Mary Lou, Shannon, Laura & daughters,
My heart breaks for each of you. July 22, 1972, every single thought that surrounds that date, our shared date of birth, causes me to think about all the great times our families spent skiing, beach bumming, and going to the lake house together. Laura, Greg was a friend to all. As "Little Brad Davis'" big brother, I can attest to the fact that he loved staying in Greg's shadow and soaked up every moment, and Mary Lou and Shannon, who could ask for a better mother and sister. I pray that you will remember the many great moments that Greg has shared with each of you, I certainly will. Love,

My heart goes out to you all knowing the pain and loss that you must feel. Greg was somebody I always looked up to ever since those "Hickory Ridge" days. I am constantly reminded by C.S. Lewis who always seemed to write with Heaven in mind. Lewis has taught me that we are made for Heaven and not for this world. We truly are just passing through. With that said, there is still much pain that remains and please know that I am and will be praying for your family.

Dear Mary Lou -- Though Greg was my fourth cousin, I was able to meet him only once, when he came to my house Christmas 1984 for a party for the young cousins. I remember him clearly and wonderfully. He ws one of the youngest but was the life of our little party with his infectious smile and laughter. You have been given a burden that I cannot even comprehend, and your strength in making it every day is admirable beyond description. Greg was the BEST. He was better than all of us. Better at a story, better at making you laugh, better at throwing a party, better at planning an event, better at being a husband and father, better at being a friend. A huge void hangs in the air and in our hearts. You touched so many and made us all laugh. I would rather have known you for only these few short years than not to have known you at all. And I am blessed for it. Remembering you always, Wesley Massey Hill
