Sue Lindley Obituary

Sue Lindley passed away on October 25, 2005, after a heroic struggle with
lung cancer that spanned two years. She was 56. Sue is survived by her husband, Warren Nothnagle, stepson Dustin Nothnagle and his wife Gwen, stepdaughter Nancy Nothnagle, and two grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother, Richard Stein, sister-in-law Carrie, niece Jessica, and nephew Jeffrey. Sue's parents, Ralph and Helen Stein, predeceased her. Sue will also be missed terribly by untold hundreds of friends and those with whom she tirelessly worked as an investigator for 23 years with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office until her retirement in 2000. She put her heart and soul into many significant and high profile cases while with the County and afterward continued work as an advocate for child victims. One of Sue's favorite sayings was "Children are a gift of life," and with good reason. Though her official job was investigator, she also served as a social worker and counselor for her victimized clients, often long after a case ended. She also gained expertise in American Sign Language, a skill she utilized in her career. Sue received her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Ottawa. A native of North Carolina, Sue moved to Phoenix as a youngster and lived here for the rest of her life. A celebration of Sue's life will be held starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, in the community center building at 2837 East Mission Lane in Phoenix. Signs to the center will be posted at the intersection of Mission and 32nd Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the West Valley Advocacy Center, at 6829 North 57th Avenue, Glendale, Arizona.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Ms. Lindley. She spent her life making a big difference in the life of others. This is something so uncommon today. She won't be forgotten. I pray for the friends and family that you all find comfort and hope from the 'God of all comfort who will comfort us in all our tribulation.'-2Corinthians 1:3,4. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Although I met Sue while she was still working for the County Attorney's Office, I knew her primarily through her work with the West Valley Advocacy Center. She was a tireless worker on behalf of child victims of crime. Those of us who investigate and prosecute these horrific crimes will remember and honor her work in this area in the years to come.

I am shocked and saddened to hear about Sue. I'm a retired DPS Officer and kenw her personally while she was with one of our officers (Ken Lindley) who has also passed. She was a wounderful person who was a delight to be around because of her beautiful personality.

Sue was one of those people that you meet in life that touch your life in ways that enrich your life forever.

Over the years that I worked with Sue it always amazed me at her tireless energy and dedication that she showed for her victims and at what great length she would go to to see that they were able to get through the traumas in their lives and move on.

Sue was a real hero to many and a dear friend she will be missed,

To her family take comfort in one another and in the great person that she was.

A friend Mary
