Sybil Koven Obituary

Koven, Sybil
passed away on April 11, 2009 at the age of 74, in Coronado, CA where she lived for the last 22 years. Born Sybil Brown on May 6, 1934, she was raised in Uniontown, PA. She attended Ohio State University, and was a huge Buckeyes fan for life. There she met and married Mike Koven, and together they had three wonderful children. They owned and operated a jewelry store, L. Larson, in Scottsdale, AZ for 35 years. She was an avid patron of the arts, and was even a member of the San Diego symphony stars. Sybil was an active member of the local and Jewish communities both in San Diego and Scottsdale. Sybil was known best for her zest for life, and her adventurous spirit. She had a huge circle of family and friends who admire, respected and adored her. After a two year battle with cancer, she passed peacefully, surrounded by her children Joyce KovenSmith (Brian) of Cardiff, CA, Ed Koven (Sondra) of Tucson; Mindy Sheahan (Patrick) of Scottsdale and her grandchildren, Adam, Marisa (Koven), Sean, Jordon and Allie (Sheahan). In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Congregation Anshei Israel (USY Fund) in Tucson, Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice of San Diego County (ICWJ), or the American Diabetes Association. Services Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 12:30 PM Evergreen Mortuary, with Rabbi Robert Eisen and Cantor Ivor Lichterman officiating. Interment to follow in the Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery, 888-7470, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. The family will be receiving guests at the home of Ed & Sondra Koven in Tucson through the 16th of April.
