Thomas Lansing Obituary

Lansing, Thomas
Thomas Howard Lansing, 67, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on August 18, 2016. He was born on June 19, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was the oldest son of the late Margaret and Howard Lansing. Tom graduated from Cooper High School in 1967 where he met the love of his life, Susan Nelson. He and Sue were married on February 26, 1971. Tom served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran receiving the Bronze Star for heroism in ground combat. He and Sue moved to Phoenix in 1972 where they raised their two daughters. Tom joined the Phoenix Police Department and was a Detective for many years. He then ended his professional career as a successful business owner for over 15 years. Tom loved his family deeply and was devoted to his wife and children. He more recently relished his role as a grandfather. He loved to attend their sports and school events. His favorite pastime was fishing on his boat in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He made many friends during his frequent trips and will be greatly missed by the community there. Tom was incredibly generous and would do anything for his friends and family. He was truly an extraordinary man. He is survived by his wife, Susan and daughters Christine and Kelly (Kevin), grandchildren Cole and Morgan, mother-in-law Dorothy Richardson Nelson, brother-in-laws Daniel (Kim), David (Jean), Brian (Margo), Michael, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Howard, brothers Terry and Craig, father-in-law Lowell Nelson, sister-in-laws Paula Lansing and Mary Nelson Schroeder, brother-in-law Stephen Nelson, and niece Melissa Nelson. I met Tom when he opened his knife shop. We shared many stories about our time in Vietnam, collecting and Tom had some great stories about his time in the police dept. He was a generous and thoughtful man with a zest for life. I send my condolences to Sue and the family.

To the Lansing Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
