Walter Lill Obituary

Walter William Lill, a devoted Christian man at 66 years old, was called home to be with his Savior on February 1st, 2008. Walt is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Eileen, and his children; son Steve (Lucie), and daughter Kristin of Chandler, AZ. Walt is also survived by his brother Ray (Sharon) of Chandler, AZ; his sister Karen (Craig) of Des Moines, Iowa; and loving nieces, nephews and in-laws. Walt was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on October 27, 1941. He started his life in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was an avid athlete and basketball player in both high school and college. He moved to Phoenix in 1964 where he began his career at Motorola as a production analyst. His career then took him and his family around the world to Chicago, Austin, Hong Kong, and back to Phoenix, where he retired as a Vice President in 1999. Walt loved his family, golf, the ocean, and his mom's peach pie. He had a zest for adventure, travel, the Arizona Cardinals, and his Lord. He is dearly loved and respected as a husband, father, brother, colleague and friend. His love and humor will live forever in our hearts. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 5th at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, from 6-8 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 715 W. Southern Ave, Tempe, Wednesday, February 6th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Walt's name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Praise God for Walter William Lill.

Walt has been a friend of mine since the 1950s when we played Babe Ruth baseball. We went on to participate in both high school and college basketball together. Walt was an intense competitor and great teammate. I shall truly miss his love of life and concern for others. Although we lost track of each other over the years, we reunited several years ago and it was like old times. Ginny and I were treated royally by Walt and Eileen during our best vacation ever. We will miss Walt. He has left us with many cherished memories. Our deepest sympathy to the entire Lill family.

I met Walt years ago and had great fun playing golf with him. As he moved from place to place for his work I had lost contact with him. But just this last fall got to meet up again and it was like old times. A very good guy. We'll all miss him.
