William Mulvaney Obituary

William "Bill" Mulvaney

Scottsdale - With great sadness and love, the family of William (Bill) Mulvaney announce his departure from this life on May 14, 2021 at his Scottsdale home. Bill was born in Detroit on September 18, 1935, to Frank and Marguerite Mulvaney. He was the youngest of three children. Bill and his family moved to Hartford, CT, in 1946. He attended Hartford grammar and high schools and later earned a B.S. degree from SUNY. Bill worked in Hartford from the early 70s through the early 80s for Southern New England Telephone, Mayflower Van Lines, and the Farley Real Estate Company in Hartford. He was elected president of the Greater Hartford Jaycees in 1966. In 1978 Bill married, and he and Carol moved to Scottsdale in 1984. He joined Terra Marketing Real Estate, and later Helmsley Spear of AZ. Bill held many real estate designations, but most important to him was CCIM, and CPM, signifying advanced commercial real estate and property management expertise. He served as property manager of Westbrook Village, the Biltmore HOA, Sunland Village, and other communities. In 2004, Bill and his nephew Brian started Diversified Funding Source which purchased notes and facilitated business transactions. At the time of Bill's death, he was still "looking for business." He was an active member of Arizona Business Brokers Association. Bill relished bringing joy to others, laughing, telling jokes, reading mysteries, traveling the world, his professional business life, and particularly attending and volunteering at his church, the Casa. More than anything else, Bill loved Carol, his wife of 43 years and his entire family. He was greatly loved in return. Bill is survived by his wife, his sister-in-law-Claire Mulvaney of Gilbert, AZ, his brother-in-law Roger Steves of Glendale, AZ, as well as his niece Marie Garber of San Diego CA, his nephews Brian Mulvaney of Gilbert, Mark Mulvaney of Centennial CO, John Mulvaney of West Hartford, CT, their spouses, and numerous great and grand nephews and nieces. Quite a family! Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ann Mulvaney, and his brother Edward Mulvaney. Bill's funeral mass will be held at the Franciscan Renewal Center (the Casa), Scottsdale, AZ, on June 2 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale.

Bill was one of the finest men that I have ever known. He was able to live a deeply spiritual life along with an incredible sense of humor. I cherish our relationship which initiated in the 70’s and continued for nearly 50 years.

Both Ruth and I frequently reminisced about our visits to Scottsdale and your visits to both Vermont and Florida. Who could ever forget our arrival at the Phoenix Airport - with snow falling - and Bill sheepishly standing by the car with windshield wipers whipping back and forth and the keys locked in the car?

Then there was Bill’s leadership of the best Sales Meeting in The Farley Company history -bar none! Also among the company highlights was the trip up and down the 38 floor building in the construction elevator with a shaking WAM kissing the ground on Pearl Street, thanking the Lord for his return to terra firms!

In so many ways, Bill was “The Best” and it was my pleasure and privilege to be his friend.

My prayers are with you Carol.

Carol,
I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He held a special place in my heart (as do you!). I will always remember how welcoming and loving you were when I 'crashed' your party as a young girl. You set me up in your room with a big tv and a box of Entenmann cookies (I still think of you when both when I see those!!). His Cinder-fella story lives in infamy! Know that I am holding you in my heart and sending big love and strength. I can see my mom and Bill sitting together in heaven laughing and reminiscing. I am grateful I knew Bill.
Love you,
Meg

Our friendship with Bill (and Carol) goes back more than 40 years. I was privileged to work closely with Bill for a number of years in the 1970's in Hartford. I've never known a more dedicated, professional and truly gracious person in business. Bill & Carol's move to AZ was the inspiration for Judy and me to move there as well. We spent many happy times with Bill & Carol in "the land of the sun", times we would not have had together unless we had made the move.

Bill's hilarious take on the story of Cinderella (boobies & rearls ) is etched in our memories forever!

We will so miss Bill's good humor and good grace but our memories of him will keep us company.

With loving memory: Peter & Judy
