William Snyder Obituary

William Snyder, a board-certified dermatologist, died on Friday, June 20, 2003. He was born to the Rev. and Mrs. M.L. Snyder on Oct. 16, 1917. Raised in Troy, NY and Paterson, NJ, he received a B.A. degree Cum Laude from New York University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After receiving his M.D. degree from New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Snyder served a general medical internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. He studied postgraduate Dermatology for two years at the University of Cincinnati and a third year at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he served on active duty from 1949 to 1952 as Chief of Dermatology at Lackland Air Force Base Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He returned to private practice in Phoenix, AZ and was the author of several medical journal articles and a frequent contributor to this paper's Letters to the Editor. Dr. Snyder was predeceased by his brother, Rabbi Herman Eliot Snyder of Springfield, MA and his sisters Ruth Rosen and Sarah Snyder of Paterson, NJ. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Gerrard (Ella) Berman of Boca Raton, FL and Wayne, NJ, and several nephews and nieces.

William Snyder was a great man in a quiet way. He was very dear to me and my family. We will miss him, as he was a part of my family and a father to me.
