William Stine Obituary

William "Bill" Stine

Phoenix - William "Bill" Stine passed away on October 14, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife Denise, his son Jonathan, and his daughter Staria.

Bill was born on October 17, 1945 in Glendale, California as a fifth-generation Californian. Bill and his wife Denise grew up together, forging a strong friendship that served as the foundation for 43 years of marriage. He owned his own tax and consulting practice for 35 years. In 1990, Bill and Denise moved from Sausalito, California to Phoenix, Arizona.

His hallmarks in life were kindness, generosity, patience and perseverance. He loved people, animals and his community and looked forward to serving in any way he could. He served on the Board of Directors for the Marin Humane Society in California for over a decade, as well as treasurer for the Sausalito Rotary Club and for many other organizations. Bill and Denise served together on the Board of Directors for the Sausalito Arts Festival. Bill was also recognized multiple times in the publication Who's Who. He was a member of the Fairbanks family in America and a direct descendant of John Quincy Adams.

He spent his whole life living his spiritual truth of practicing love and kindness to all; knowing and accepting that everyone had a personal journey.

Bill enjoyed gardening, football, antique cars, theater, singing, going to the beach, and playing games (he was an excellent Bridge player). Bill's son Jonathan said that one of his favorite memories was traveling to California each year with his father and attending the Goodguys Car Show. Bill loved "Mr. B" his Blue and Gold Macaw. He was also a talented jazz bass guitarist and studio musician.

"In this day of pain and sorrow, the dog that is down today may be up tomorrow."

Throughout his life, Bill called upon these words written by his great-grandfather Robert Ely Payn about the historical stock market crash in 1929. This sentiment served as a reminder of the importance of optimism in the face of adversity.

Bill's life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the William "Bill" Stine Memorial Fund.
