Wilmer Hale Obituary

Wilmer Earl Hale July 15, 1923 - June 28, 2006 "A soft answer turns away
wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger..." (Proverbs 15:1) Around 4 am, June 28, 2006, one of America's finest World War 2 Veterans left this world to enter the kingdom of God. Wilmer Earl Hale was beloved by all that knew him. He was born to Fred and Nonie Hale, with 4 brothers and 1 sister (Norman, Dan, Harold, Billy, and Evelyn) in Virginia. Earl grew to be a handsome young man, known for his smile, and joined the US AIR FORCE in 1942 during World War 2. He served as a gunner on a B24 Bomber during the war, and during peace times, he served as a flight engineer on a KC97 Tanker plane (dangerous work that included re-fueling planes in the air.). 5 years after the war was over, on January 9, 1946; Earl married Agnes Imogene Goodson. Together they had 3 children (Jeffrey, Priscilla, and Sandra) Jeff gave them 4 grandchildren; Bobby, Sheri, Andy, and little Jeffy (deceased). Priscilla gave them 2 more grandchildren; Teri and Melissa. Sandy gave them 2 more grandchildren after that; Jana and April. There were many more great-grandchildren after that. On December 1st, 1963, Earl retired from the AIR FORCE after 20 years and moved his family to Arizona. In 1963, he began Earl's Appliance Service in Tempe and 25 years later, in 1989, began his official retirement. He stayed at home to help his wife with the house, and spend time with his grandchildren. He was very passionate about being honest. He was soft-spoken and loved without conditions. In 1996, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and in early 1999 Earl started to show signs of Alzheimer's. In 2004, he was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Over time, symptoms worsened. Agnes cared for him at home, and in the spring of 2006 he went to live in a comfortable nursing home. Over the course of 4 months time, his conditions steadily worsened, until the morning of his death. Visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2006, 1:00PM, Funeral Service to follow, 2:00PM at Green Acres Chapel of Light 401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale.
