Phyllis Snipes Obituary

Phyllis Jane Brown Fennell Snipes passed away November 24, 2014 in Sedona, Arizona at the age of 93 years. She was born in Princeton, Indiana on February 20, 1921 to loving parents, Charles Roscoe and Sarah Ethel McCullough Brown.

She married William S. (Bill) Fennell on December 27, 1942 in Flagstaff, Arizona. The couple had four sons. Bill died August 26, 1971. In 1976 she married William A. (Al) Snipes and moved to Roswell, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert E. Brown, both of her husbands, her son Stephen and grandson Dee Melton.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Bill Jr. (Ruth) of Lake Jackson, TX, Ronald (Alice) of Flagstaff, Frederick (Lynette) of Princeton, TX, and living in Roswell, NM; Lynn (John) Allensworth, Marsha Melton and Bill (Pat) Snipes. She is blessed to have 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren , and 4 great, great grandchildren.

Phyllis moved to Flagstaff as a young girl. She attended school with her dear friend Alice Osterfeld Wilson and they have been best friends for life. She graduated from Arizona State Teachers College (NAU) and went on to teach first grade at Killip School.

She lived a full and active life, always involved in many organizations. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 75 years, beginning as a member of Rainbow in 1935. She belonged to PEO since 1956, and was a member of Tri-Delta. Phyllis loved helping others and was a member of Assistance League of Chaves County, also serving a term as president. She was an accomplished artist and also belonged to several square dance groups. She traveled to many states including Hawaii and Alaska, and also visited England and Italy.
