A very special and gentle man, Sean Duffy, left this life May 26th surrounded by his beloved wife, Sheila, their two daughters Teresa and Angela, and his son-in-law, David. He is survived by his four grandchildren: Sean and Emily Buechel, Flagstaff, AZ; Isabel and Arlo Thornburg, Peoria, AZ. Also his two brothers: Brian Duffy, West Yorkshire, England; Vincent Duffy, Valdeiglesias, Spain.
Sean was born in Scotland in 1943; his family moved to England when he was a young teen. His family tells of his adventurous character as a youngster when he tried running away on his first day of school. Although stopped by the teacher, his drive to view the world was not deterred. He was exceptionally bright and excelled in academics ultimately becoming a (British equivalent) CPA. Sean was an avid reader, loved classical music, opera, and playing chess; he also pursued individual athletics. As a youth he pursued judo, scuba diving, boxing, and cycling hundreds of miles. Later he participated in marathons, triathlons, and various races that earned him a hundred t-shirts and his family's admiration.
It was his accounting career that brought him to the United States in 1969 to meet and marry his heart's desire, Sheila. They shared the love of travel and saw the world together. Soon, they moved back to England where his two greatest sources of pride, his daughters, were born. Eventually the family moved back to the United States permanently. Later, they settled in Flagstaff where he developed a successful business and a strong social community.
The many friends and clients that grew to know Sean would, no doubt, describe him as quiet, kind, and cerebral with a delightful Scottish sense of humor to match his warm accent. He spent many personal hours swimming miles in the athletic club's pool and relaxing on his home's back patio shared with Sheila and the garden she created. For all his richly intellectual personal facets, Sean was also a "pub" man. He enjoyed drinking his favorite brew from Mother Road Brewery and playing darts in his garage with family and friends that dropped by.
This extraordinary man will always hold a place of honor, respect and cherished memories in the lives of those who knew him and those he encountered. "Beannachd liebh" Blessings be with You.
