Antonio Leyva Obituary

Antonio (Tony) Manuel Leyva
1936 - 2017

Tony Leyva, a resident of Porterville, CA, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2017, at the age of 81.

It's very difficult to put into words what our Dad meant to all of us. He truly was one of a kind. He raised 11 kids during his life. Even though only 3 were his, he treated us all the same.

He served 21 years in the Air Force, went to Vietnam at the age of 33 to fight for his country.

Tony is preceded in death by his father, Isaac Leyva, his mother Adela Lopez Leyva, brother Joe Leyva, sister Rafaela Salazar and son Manuel Leyva.

Tony is survived by his wife Pearl Stone Leyva, his children Corinne Ruiz (husband Xavier), Chino Martinez (wife Becky), Veronica Preciado (husband Eliseo), Anthony Martinez (wife Jeanette), Ski Leyva (wife Tina) Herbie Caron, Brian Caron, Margie Hendrie and sisters Tommy Torres, Inez Ruiz, Lupe Martinez and Mary Ballesteros.

Visitation is 3:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 16th at Myers Chapel in Porterville. Graveside service is 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 17th at Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Druids Hall.

Rest easy now soldier, your tour is done. We love you.

Tony, you loved me as your daughter and I loved and love you as my Dad. I think I was 8 or 9 years old when I came into your life to live with you and my mom. I never felt like your stepdaughter. My memories are of being a happy little girl and a grateful young lady.

I'll never forget the celebrity tournament we went to when I was 13 years old. We were all having a good time when you noticed James Garner, the actor, staring at me. You started getting mad and he finally came over and apologized for staring at me. He shook your hand, introduced himself and told you that your daughter, me, was very beautiful "Wow", I felt special. Then everything was okay. In fact, during my one of my last visits with you, we talked about it.

I was so proud to have you and my Dad walk me down the aisle when I married Xavier.

Sending love and hugs to you, Manuel, Olivia and Eric. What a beautiful reunion. Fly High with the Angels.
