BEVERLY ANN CARTER
February 21, 1949 – June 19, 2024
Bakersfield – Beverly Ann Carter, beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Teacher, Friend, and remarkable woman, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 19, 2024, at the age of 75. Bev Carter passed away peacefully at the Hoffmann House, surrounded by her family.
Born on February 21, 1949, in Bakersfield, CA, Bev Carter was the daughter of Dorothy and Ferneley Roberts. From a young age, she developed a passion for music and loved to play the piano. Throughout her childhood, she was involved in various forms of music and especially enjoyed her time in the choir during high school.
Bev Carter accepted Christ as her Savior in college and dedicated the rest of her life to praising and worshiping Him. Christ's light shone through her, making it evident to all that Christ lived in her. She was active in the church with women's and children's ministries, demonstrating Christ's love to everyone she met.
She loved her family immensely and devoted her time to loving and caring for them. She married Tim Carter on February 15, 1975, and together they built a life filled with love, respect, and selfless support of one another. They deeply cared for each other and showed their love through acts of service. Bev Carter was a devoted mom to Adam Carter and Katie Corbin, and her love for her children was immeasurable. She showed them the Fruits of the Spirit and led both of her children to the Lord at an early age. She also loved taking her children on adventures to new and exciting places. Both of her children followed in her footsteps with music, each being involved in band and/or choir. She also cherished her grandchildren, Abigail and Hannah Corbin, and enjoyed teaching them piano when they visited. Her legacy of faith and music has lived on in each generation she touched.
Bev Carter graduated from California State University, Fullerton, in 1972, earning a Bachelor of Music. She then moved back to Bakersfield and obtained her teaching credentials, starting her career as a music teacher in the fall of 1973. Throughout her career, she taught elementary music education and junior high choir in three school districts, spending most of her years at Actis Junior High and Earl Warren Junior High. She received numerous awards, including being honored as one of the Teachers of the Year in 2000. Bev loved teaching music and helping students grow their talent. Whenever asked why she enjoyed teaching junior high students, she would always say that she disliked junior high herself growing up and felt it was her calling and mission field to help junior high students reach their potential during an awkward time in their lives.
Those who knew Bev will always remember her joy, kindness, gentleness, and love. She always found the good in people, was generous with her time, and made everyone feel appreciated in her presence. She was caring, thoughtful, and patient. Even in her final days, she was smiling and laughing. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will always live on in the lives of those she touched.
Bev Carter is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Tim Carter; her children, Adam Carter (spouse Kyla Carter) and Katie Corbin (spouse Evan Corbin); her grandchildren, Abigail and Hannah Corbin; and her sister, Bonnie Crawford, as well as other extended family.
Bev Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Ferneley Roberts, and her brother, Denny Roberts.
A celebration of Bev's life will be held on July 1, 2024, at 10:00 am at Valley Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that donations be made to Hoffmann House, the hospice home that beautifully cared for her during her last days.
